Team Tink will walk in their 16th 5K Celebration of Life on June 7 in New Providence. The team was started in honor of Esther Calavano, who donated one of her kidneys to her dear friend Mary Ginsberg, who needed a transplant due to Polycystic Kidney Disease. This June, Mary celebrates 16 years with her gift of life.

Team Tink was impacted by our lifesaving mission again in 2025, when Mary's niece, Michelle, received a kidney and liver transplant. They also walk in her honor.

You can join Team Tink and other inspiring teams on June 7 by visiting NJ5K.org today.

This , we’re sharing Nancy Nusbaum’s incredible journey to restored sight through corneal transplantation.

For 35 years, Nancy worked with The Seeing Eye, Inc. , supporting people who are blind or visually impaired and helping raise 21 guide dog puppies with her husband, Martin. But while dedicating her life to helping others navigate vision loss, Nancy didn’t realize she was experiencing her own.

In her mid-30s, a routine eye exam revealed she had congenital corneal disease in both eyes.

“I never understood why people loved the color blue so much because to me, it always looked dusty and gray,” Nancy said.

As her vision worsened over the years, she came close to losing her sight completely. Thanks to successful corneal transplants, Nancy was able to see the world clearly and vividly for the first time.

One moment she’ll never forget happened while driving with her husband.

“I saw a car and said, ‘Wow! What color is that? It’s incredible!’ Martin smiled and said, ‘That’s blue, Nancy.’ I had never truly seen the color blue before.”

Nancy’s story is a beautiful reminder of the life-changing impact of corneal donation and the hope it can bring to others. 💙💚

Dale Steele was a humble man whose actions often spoke louder than his words. A WWII veteran, artist, and rancher, Dale lived a life of intention and generosity. Dale donated his liver and became the country's oldest organ donor at 100 years old.

This May, we celebrate by honoring the wisdom, strength, and generosity of older adults, including those who have given or received the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.

Anyone can can register to lives as an organ and tissue donor. Join the donor registry today at NJSharingNetwork.org/Register 💙💚

On , we honor the individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Corporal Benjamin S. Kopp, a member of the 75th Army Ranger Regiment, saved six of his comrades when his unit came under attack in Afghanistan. He was mortally wounded and saved four more lives back in the United States through his selfless gift of organ donation.

To honor Corporal Kopp and all other brave soldiers who became organ, eye and tissue donors, the Fallen Soldier statue stands at the National Donor Memorial at United Network for Organ Sharing and honors members of our military who made organ, eye, and tissue donation their last courageous act of service. The site is a place of peace for all who wish to honor the gift of life! 💙💚

When Karen Stash, RN, takes part in NJ Sharing Network’s 5K Celebration of Life on June 7, she will be honoring the lifesaving decision she made to donate one of her kidneys to her father, Oscar.

“I already knew organ donation could change someone’s life,” said Karen, a Carteret resident and captain of the Hackensack Meridian Health – JFK University Medical Center 5K team. “But when it’s your dad sitting in that dialysis chair, it becomes deeply personal. I wanted to give him more time, more freedom, and the chance to feel like himself again.”

After extensive testing, Karen learned she was a match. On November 14, 2018, father and daughter underwent transplant surgery, and Oscar was able to come off dialysis immediately.

“To see him no longer tied to dialysis, to watch him enjoy time with my mom, my children, and our family again — that’s everything,” said Karen. “If I had to make the choice again, I would do it in a heartbeat.”

“The 5K Celebration of Life means everything to me,” said Karen. “Every year, I run the 5K and then walk it again with my team and family. I’m proud to stand with others whose lives have been touched by organ and tissue donation and transplantation.”

Team JT’s 5K YESSIR will be walking in the 5K Celebration of Life for the first time on June 7. The team was created by Selena Bohan to honor her son, Johnathan aka JT and his decision to be an organ donor.

Johnathan was an amazing son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. He was the kind of person who showed up, who cared, who made everyone around him feel seen and loved. Johnathan’s gifts were able to save multiple lives.

Team JT’s 5K YESSIR looks forward to continuing Johnathan’s legacy. His mother says, “Johnathan’s story doesn’t end at loss. It transforms into hope, into life, into a promise I made to him: his light would never stop shining.”

You can join JT’s 5K YESSIR and other inspiring teams on June 7 by visiting NJ5K.org and signing up today.
