In a small town, we look out for each other. Whether it’s helping a neighbor clear brush or checking in after a storm, community is what keeps us strong.

This week (June 1–7) is CPR & AED Awareness Week, and it’s a powerful reminder that the first "first responder" on the scene of an emergency isn't always an EMT or a paramedic—often, it’s you.

When someone experiences sudden cardiac arrest, every single second matters. While our amazing local emergency crews rush to get there, bystander CPR can double or even triple a person's chance of survival. Learning how to perform high-quality chest compressions and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) gives our loved ones, neighbors, and friends the fighting chance they need before the pros arrive.

You don't need a medical degree to save a life—just a little bit of knowledge and the willingness to step up.

💡 WHAT YOU CAN DO THIS WEEK
Learn Hands-Only CPR: It’s just two simple steps—call 911, and push hard and fast in the center of the chest to the beat of the song "Stayin' Alive."

LOCATE THE AEDS AROUND YOU: Take note of where they are at our local schools, community centers, or churches. They walk you through the steps out loud and are designed for anyone to use!

FIND A QUICK CLASS: Check in with our local fire department or community center to see when the next quick certification or refresher class is happening.

Let's keep our town safe by being prepared. You never know when you might be the exact person a neighbor needs. Heart ❤️ this post to spread the word, and share it to remind your friends!

Did you know there are official Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans? 🏃‍♀️🇺🇸

Curious? So were we! It turns out the U.S. government has laid out exactly what our bodies need to stay healthy, sleep better, and boost our mood—and it’s tailored for every age and ability (link below).

Here are a few highlights:

🔹 ADULTS: Aim for 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise (like brisk walking) a week, plus muscle-strengthening at least 2 days a week.

🔹 OLDER ADULTS: The same weekly goals apply, but with a special focus on multicomponent physical activity. This means mixing in balance training along with aerobic and strength exercises to help prevent falls and stay independent!

🔹 ADULTS with Chronic Conditions & Disabilities: Physical activity is vital medicine! If you are able, the goal is still 150 minutes of moderate activity a week. If that’s not possible, the official rule is simple: engage in regular physical activity according to your unique abilities and avoid inactivity.

✨ THE BEST NEW RULE: They completely removed the old rule that exercise "only counts if it's 10 minutes or longer." A 2-minute stretch, taking the ramp instead of the elevator, or a quick roll in a wheelchair all add up toward your weekly goals.

What’s your favorite way to get moving? Let us know in the comments! 👇

🇺🇸 A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Local Heroes & Volunteers 🇺🇸

This Memorial Day, our family wants to take a moment to recognize the incredible effort that goes into honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

We would like to send a massive, personal thank you to the volunteers and veterans associated with the American Legion Post 550 New Richmond, Ohio and the Auxiliary of Post 6770.

Because of their dedication, 1,728 flags were placed across all of our local cemeteries and memorials. Seeing that sea of red, white, and blue is a powerful reminder of the true meaning of this day.

Please join us in showing these hardworking individuals your warmest thanks in the comments on their American Legion Post 550 New Richmond, Ohio page, or by thanking them in person if you see them around town today!

😴 May is Better Sleep Month! ✨

As caregivers, family members, or just busy individuals, getting a good night's rest can sometimes feel like a luxury. But high-quality sleep is one of the most powerful tools we have for keeping our minds sharp, our immune systems strong, and our moods bright!

When we sleep well, we can show up as our best selves for the people who rely on us most. ❤️

Check out these 7 simple sleep tips to help you drift off deeper and wake up feeling truly refreshed:

⏰ Keep a consistent schedule: Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.

☕ Limit late caffeine: Avoid coffee or tea right before bedtime.

🧘 Create a wind-down routine: Read, stretch, or meditate to signal to your brain it's time to rest.

🌙 Keep your room dark & cool: Set your environment up for uninterrupted, deep sleep.

📱 Limit screen time: Put down the phones and laptops at least an hour before sleeping.

🏃 Exercise regularly: Daily movement supports better, more restful sleep.

🥗 Avoid heavy meals at night: Opt for light snacks if you get hungry before bed.

Waiting on Home Health? Treatment Must Legally Begin Within 48 Hours ! ⏳🏠

Don't let a home health agency deny you or your loved ones timely care. Medicare’s governing rules are clear: Home health care must begin within 48 hours of a doctor's order.

Know the difference between "Paperwork" and "Care":

A true "Start of Care" is a comprehensive clinical assessment by a licensed nurse or therapist. Dropping off a folder or an admissions packet on a bedside table is not care—it’s a compliance violation.

If you are waiting for care that hasn't arrived, or if your "start of care" was nothing more than a folder left on a table, you have the right to speak up. This practice violates the Medicare Conditions of Participation.

How to Report a Violation: If your rights are being ignored, contact your CMS State Survey Agency or the Office of Inspector General (OIG):

📞 Ohio: 1-800-669-3534
📞 Kentucky: 1-877-597-2331
📞 Indiana: 1-800-246-8909
📞 OIG: 1-800-447-8477 or 1-800-HHS-TIPS

OUR PROMISE

At Small Town Home Health Solutions, we stand by the 48-hour rule—not just because it’s the law, but because it’s the right thing to do. We are here to provide skilled nursing and therapy that actually moves the needle on your recovery.

Expect more from your home health provider. Our neighbors and loved ones deserve nothing less.
