HONORING OUR COMBAT-WOUNDED HEROES 💜

Today, on Purple Heart Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much for our nation.

Beyond its military significance, this date highlights the specialized medical care, physical rehabilitation programs, and dedicated clinical teams available to support combat-wounded Veterans.

A special shout-out to VFW Fred Calaway Post 6770 right here in Village of New Richmond for everything they do to support and honor our local heroes! 🇺🇸

🚨 COMMUNITY ALERT 🚨 Watch Out for the "Missed Jury Duty" Phone Scam

Please help us protect our local seniors by sharing this important warning with your friends, parents, and neighbors!

Scammers are actively targeting our community with a very convincing phone scam. The caller claims you have missed jury duty and that a warrant has been issued for your arrest. They then demand thousands of dollars in immediate payment over the phone to "clear the charge." THIS IS A SCAM.

-

Here is what you and your loved ones need to know to stay safe:

🛑 Courts NEVER call demanding money. Official jury notices arrive in the physical mail. Real law enforcement officers or court staff will never demand immediate payment over the phone to clear a warrant.

🛑 Caller ID can be fake. Scammers use technology to make their calls look like they’re coming from your local police department, sheriff's office, or courthouse. Don't let an official-looking number fool you.

🛑 Government agencies don't take gift cards. If a caller asks for payment via wire transfer, gift cards, Zelle/Venmo, or crypto kiosks, it is 100% a fraud attempt.

🛑 It is ALWAYS okay to hang up! Scammers rely on panic and urgency. If someone is aggressive, threatening arrest, or pressuring you to stay on the line, simply hang up. You do not owe them an explanation.

-

WHAT TO DO IF YOU GET THIS CALL:

✅Hang up immediately.

✅Never redial the number that called you. Look up your local police department or court clerk number independently to check if you are concerned.

✅Tell a trusted family member, neighbor, or friend.

Let's keep our community safe by spreading the word. Please take a moment to tag family members or share this post to your feed! ❤️

At Small Town Adult Day Services, we know that enjoying the beautiful summer weather is one of the best parts of living in our community. But while you're out gardening, walking, or enjoying a backyard barbecue, the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays are hard at work—and the heat is, too!

Protecting your body isn't just about avoiding a painful sunburn today; it's about staying healthy, hydrated, and independent.

-

Here are a few simple, everyday ways to protect yourself and your loved ones this summer:

☀️ Drink Up & Stay Hydrated: The sun and heat dry out your body quickly. Sip water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty yet. For older adults, the body's natural "thirsty" signal weakens, making proactive hydration absolutely essential to prevent dizziness and heat fatigue.

☀️ Protect Your Vision: Sunglasses aren't just a fashion statement! Look for lenses that offer 99% to 100% UV protection to safeguard your eyes from cataracts and regular strain.

☀️ Don't Skimp on SPF: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher at least 15 minutes before heading outside. Don't forget easy-to-miss spots like the tops of your ears, the back of your neck, and your hands!

☀️ Seek the Shade: The sun’s rays are strongest between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. If you’re planning outdoor activities, try to schedule them for the cooler morning or evening hours, or make sure you have a shady spot to rest.

☀️ Dress the Part: Lightweight, long-sleeved shirts, pants, and wide-brimmed hats offer excellent, breathable protection against the sun.

Did you know that July 11th is Cheer Up the Lonely Day? ❤️✨

Sometimes, the best medicine isn’t something you find at a pharmacy—it's simple human connection. Isolation and loneliness can take a heavy toll on our health, especially for seniors, those recovering from illness, or homebound neighbors right here in our community.

-

Today is a sweet reminder of how much power we have to brighten someone's world. It doesn't take much to make a big impact! Here are a few easy ways to spread some joy today:

📞 Call an old friend or relative just to chat and catch up.

👋 Wave and strike up a conversation with a neighbor you haven't seen in a while.

🌸 Drop off a small treat, a card, or some fresh flowers to someone living alone.

☕ Offer to sit and have a cup of coffee with someone who might need the company.

-

At Small Town Adult Day Services, fighting isolation is at the heart of what we do every single day. Our center isn't just a safe space—it's a vibrant community where local seniors and adults find a friendly face, a listening ear, meaningful activities, and warm, lifelong connections. 💙 Let’s look out for one another! Who are you reaching out to today? 👇
