Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) is a lifelong condition that can affect learning, behavior, physical health, and everyday life. And because every person with FASD is unique, there’s no single “look” or set of symptoms.

FASD is preventable. There is no known safe amount or safe time to drink alcohol during pregnancy. If you’re pregnant or think you might be pregnant, it’s not too late to stop drinking.

Thirsty for medical knowledge Thursday!

As of the 2025–26 season, thimerosal-containing vaccines in the U.S. are limited to a small number of multidose-vial (MDV) products, and ACIP now recommends that essentially all recipients receive only single-dose, thimerosal-free formulations. In June/July 2025, ACIP voted (and the recommendation was adopted July 22, 2025) that children ≤18 years, pregnant women, and all adults receive seasonal influenza vaccine only in single-dose formulations free of thimerosal as a preservative — which, because those three groups encompass the entire population, effectively means all persons should get thimerosal-free flu vaccine.

Prior to 2025, multidose flu vaccines contained 12.5 to 25 µg of mercury “Thimerosal” which our body converts to ethyl mercury. Most single dosed flu vaccines prior to 2025 did not contain Thimerosal. The body processes this form of mercury in 5 to 10 days and much less risk of neurotoxicity.

An average can of 6 ounces of tuna contains 17 µg of mercury which our body converts to methylmercury and it takes average 21 days to eliminate from our system which increases risk of neurotoxicity.
