POSES ARE POWERFUL....these pictures were taken 15 seconds apart, yet my body looks completely different.
On the left, my leggings are pulled down, forcing my skin to be “smooshed” in different directions and I’m slumped over in horrible posture (which, if I’m being honest, is my normal position more often than not because I work from home 🤦🏼♀️.)
On the right, I’ve got my shoulders pulled back, my hips twisted & my leg popped a bit.
Yes, the first picture is a lil dramatic, but so is the second. I don’t stand or walk around like either of these in real life. & neither does anyone else.
My point is this: don’t compare yourself to what you see in IG. You don’t know the behind the scenes. Yes, some people have bodies like both of these pictures and they are equally as incredible because...YOUR BODY IS BEAUTIFUL. Your body gets you through your best & worst days & you should feel proud of that.
We ALL have days where we look in the mirror & don’t like what we see and find ourselves comparing, creating a cycle of negative thoughts.
I’m going to challenge you here: next time you have one of those days, I want you to close out Instagram for at least an hour. I want you stand in the mirror in superwoman pose (hands on hips, feet wide apart, shoulders back & staring confidently forward) & list 5 things that you love about yourself. Whether it’s about your body or your personality. FIVE THINGS. Say them out loud. Then write them down & tape them to your mirror to look at when you begin to feel this way again. Each time, try adding to that list.
I have about 15 affirmations I repeat to myself every morning (or several times a day) & I cannot tell you how much of a difference it has made in my life. I thought it was stupid & would never work and I felt so silly (& sometimes still do) but overtime, I found myself walking away from the mirror BELIEVING what I had told myself.
I challenge you to write down a few affirmations and every day, for 7 days, repeat them to yourself in the mirror. See how you feel after 7 days. Start with “I am enough. All that I need is within me. I forgive myself.” Add your own from there.
What affirmations do you say to yourself?
