Over the past two days, 7 of our paramedics, along with medics from neighboring agencies, spent 16 hours sharpening some of the most advanced lifesaving skills in EMS by attending the Difficult Airway Course with the New York College of Disaster Medicine at our New Windsor station.

This wasn’t your average classroom training. Crews worked through realistic, high-pressure scenarios and practiced managing some of the most challenging airways they could encounter in the field. Training included caring for patients with severe facial and airway burns, advanced airway decision-making, and even performing surgical tracheostomies on real pig tracheas to provide hands-on experience with a procedure that is rarely needed—but can be truly lifesaving when it is.

While we hope to rarely perform many of these advanced procedures, that’s exactly why we train. When seconds matter and the unexpected happens, our providers are prepared with the knowledge, confidence, and hands-on experience to deliver the highest level of care to our community.

A huge thank you to the Center for Disaster Medicine at New York Medical College for providing such an outstanding course and helping our providers continue to advance their skills. We are proud of our paramedics for their dedication to continuous education and excellence in patient care!

Our crews were proud to provide EMS coverage for Cornwall’s annual Fourth of July celebration and fireworks. To help keep everyone safe during the heat and festivities, we staffed three additional units and two extra paramedics, with every unit stocked with cooling supplies and bottles of water for anyone who needed them.

As expected, things got a little busy throughout the evening, but it was a great example of teamwork at its best. We want to extend a sincere thank you to Town of Highlands Ambulance Corps. for lending us additional cooling fans, and to Town of Newburgh Emergency Medical Services for standing by in our quarters while our crews handled multiple calls.

Events like these are only possible because neighboring agencies work together with one common goal—keeping our community safe. Thank you to everyone who helped make it a successful and safe Independence Day celebration.

It is an honor to have worked alongside the United States Military Academy at West Point and its Athletic Department for many years, providing EMS coverage and medical support to the outstanding cadets who represent our nation.

From athletic events to special activities, our team has been proud to stand ready whenever called upon, helping ensure the safety and well-being of those preparing to become the next generation of Army leaders.

We value our long-standing partnership with West Point and remain committed to supporting the cadets, staff, and community for years to come! Photo Matthew Masopust

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our amazing moms at New Windsor EMS!

Thank you for everything you do — not just for our agency and community, but for your families too. We know that for many of you, the day doesn’t end when you clock out at work… it just means clocking in at home. Between long shifts, sleepless nights, missed holidays, and the constant balancing act of EMS and motherhood, you somehow continue to give your all to everyone around you.

And today, we hope you get everything you deserve — hot coffee, uninterrupted naps, a silent radio, snacks nobody asks to share, and at least one trip to the bathroom without someone yelling “Mom!” through the door.

Happy Mother’s day!!
