In my practice, toxic load rarely comes from one dramatic exposure. More often it is the accumulation of small, repeated inputs that quietly interfere with hormone signaling, metabolic function, and cellular health over time.
These are five things I see regularly that tend to raise concern during clinical sessions.
Birth control prescribed for “hormonal imbalance.”
Hormonal contraceptives can suppress symptoms, but they do not identify or correct the root cause driving the imbalance. When cycles are irregular or hormones are dysregulated, the more important question is why.
“Fragrance” listed as an ingredient.
This single word can represent dozens to hundreds of undisclosed chemicals. Many are known endocrine disruptors that contribute to cumulative toxic load.
Tap water without filtration.
Depending on the municipality, tap water can contain disinfection byproducts, heavy metals, PFAS, pharmaceutical residues, and other contaminants that add to daily exposure.
“Your labs are normal.”
Lab values that fall within wide population reference ranges do not always reflect optimal function. Clinical context matters. Symptoms deserve lab result investigation, not dismissal.
Microwaving plastic.
Heat can accelerate the migration of compounds such as BPA, BPS, and phthalates from plastic into food. These compounds are well studied for their effects on endocrine signaling.
The goal is not fear. It is awareness.
When we begin reducing unnecessary exposures and investigating root causes, the body often has far more capacity to regulate and heal than we realize.
Which one of these surprised you the most?
