Puffins are a reminder that strength doesn’t always look the way we expect.
They can beat their wings up to 400 times a minute, flying as fast as 55 mph, yet those same wings become powerful flippers that carry them 200 feet beneath the ocean’s surface. They spend most of the year alone at sea, only returning each summer to gather in thriving colonies, reunite with lifelong partners, and raise a single precious puffling. Even their brilliant beaks are seasonal—vivid during the breeding season, then quietly shed for a simpler winter appearance.
Nature never mistakes adaptation for inconsistency.
Maybe that’s true for us, too.
We are meant to evolve with the seasons of our lives. To know when to strive, when to dive deep, when to seek solitude, and when to return to our community. To recognize that our brightest colors don’t have to be permanent to be authentic, and that our deepest commitments are often expressed in the quiet, ordinary rhythms of showing up—again and again.
The puffin reminds us that resilience isn’t about staying the same. It’s about becoming exactly who each season requires us to be, without losing who we are.
