Those in our generation who actually have ADHD were often undiagnosed, especially “smart kids” who found ways to compensate (at great cost) and women and girls, in whom it often presents differently. Untreated ADHD can lead to depression, anxiety, substance misuse, and other difficulties later in life. This NYT article addresses ADHD in adults.

It’s one of the most common psychiatric disorders in adults. Yet there are no U.S. guidelines for diagnosing and treating patients beyond childhood.
