Shauna Sweeney is the founder and CEO of tendercare. She built this company because of her dad, Mike. 13 years ago, Mike was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's in his early 50s.

He was a San Francisco Bay Pilot, one of the few people in the world trusted to guide massive cargo ships safely under the Golden Gate Bridge. He ran ultramarathons in Death Valley. He raised Shauna as a single dad.

When the diagnosis came, Shauna was 3,000 miles away working in tech. She had no idea where to start. And there was nothing out there to help her figure it out.

So she cobbled together tools, built systems, found help, and figured it out. She then built tendercare so no family would ever have to start from zero the way she did.

Today, on Independence Day, Mike is still in the home he grew up in.

Robin Williams spent his final year aware that something was happening to his mind and had no name for it. His doctors were treating Parkinson's. His autopsy revealed Lewy body dementia.

His wife Susan said she had renewed hope the night before he died. She thought he was finally getting better. That hope was built on the wrong diagnosis.

Lewy body dementia is the second most common progressive dementia and one of the most commonly misdiagnosed. It mimics Parkinson's disease so closely that even specialists miss it. Families lose critical time chasing explanations that don't fit while their loved one keeps declining.

Robin Williams spent his final years being told it was stress, then anxiety, then depression, then Parkinson's. Each answer close enough to feel real. None of them the full picture.
