Devotion, Reflection & Prayer for Monday, August 29th 2022.
Do you know that there’s no scripture in the Bible that says “God works in mysterious ways His wonders to perform?” I've searched and searched but can’t find it, yet I hear it and I repeat it all the time. It’s a beautiful phrase and I love it even if it’s not in the Bible because it is so true. God does work in mysterious ways. When I think back on my own life and how He miraculously knits the pieces of my life and I’m sure your life together. He also raises up people, puts them in position, elevates and inspires them as true servants for Him not to glorify themselves but for His glory, for His honor.
So do you know that throughout time, way before you and I were born, He raised up a reformer by the name of John Wycliffe who had such a love for the Word of God that he was willing, like Christ, to put his own life on the line so people like you and I and millions of people all over the world, now have an opportunity to learn and study Bible truth for themselves?
Similarly to the sacrifice of many slaves of long ago, we must learn to show greater appreciation to people John Wycliffe, Martin Luther, John Wesley, John Huss and many others who willingly sacrificed their lives to give us freedom and free access to the Bible that we take for granted.
During this break, if you are so inclined, you can read about John Wycliff, the history of how the Bible went from being hidden, forbidden and unaffordable to now being available to us free of charge. It’s a very intriguing story which I believe there was talk of turning that entire book into a movie. That book titled “The Great Controversy” is a book I’ve just started to read myself (I will share the link below for a free download copy). BTW – this is also a good read for during our 5+ days Bible reading break). The book is about church history. About the early reformers who were called “Protestants” because they protested the injustices of Rome. The reformers at that time lived according to the Word of God. You will also understand why we have so many different religious beliefs which sprang out of the followers of the reformers.
Don’t forget to pray before and after your devotional time and have a blessed day ~ Thelma Kingsale

Chapter 5 (page 79) – John Wycliffe
Read Exodus 32:1-14. What role do we find Moses playing here? After the people began worshiping the golden calf, God decided they had gone too far and announced that He would destroy the people and make Moses a great nation. But rather than taking up God’s offer, Moses pleaded for God to show grac...
