Happea Nutrition

Happea Nutrition I am Paula Doebrich, a Registered Dietitian, Public Health Nutritionist and the founder of Happea Nutrition: a private nutrition practice in New York City.

Private nutrition practice by Paula Doebrich, MPH, RDN specializing in personalized nutrition, nutrigenomics and helping you improve your relationship with food. Before starting my journey towards becoming a dietitian, I worked as a model internationally. This experience allowed me to live in many places around the globe but I also felt a lot of pressure to look a certain way. Up until my early tw

enties, I was a chronic dieter and always looking for the hottest diet-trends. Today, this helps me understand where my clients are coming from. I want to help others avoid the misery I went through. As a dietitian, I focus on a highly personalized approach to each person I work with. I am passionate about helping people feel better about their choices. I believe that a healthy lifestyle is one that allows for a bowl of salad and a slice of cake equally and doesn't make you feel guilty about your choices. I also use nutrigenomics (DNA tests) in my practice because I believe it is the future of nutrition. I hope to empower my clients to feel good by finding a lifestyle that works long-term. The nutrition space can be very confusing, so I try my best to provide people with reliable and easy-to-digest information. I believe that being healthy is only possible when you enjoy your lifestyle. Restriction doesn't work long term and is not necessary to feel good in your body. I accept clients on a case-to-case basis. You can schedule an intro call or contact me to inquire about services.

There's been so much buzz about eating late in the media recently that I decided to write my own article. The newly published studies that were often mistakenly cited as definitive proof of a relationship between eating at a certain time and weight gain. The research on "chrono-nutrition" is still in its infancy, so we have to be careful to make conclusions on causality here. We just don't know if this will turn out to be meaningful on a population level. Does it matter more what time you eat, or what your meal is composed of and whether you are meeting your nutrient goals? I am leaning towards the latter but will wait for more research to make statements ;)

There has been a lot of buzz around timing of meals recently, especially after two studies were published in October. One suggesting that eating late may be directly related to weight gain and another suggesting that eating late may change hunger and appetite but does not impact weight.

Supplements were never meant to replace a balanced diet but to supplement it in situations where appropriate intake was not possible (hence the name). Today, you see companies promoting their supplements with "replaces all the vegetables you should eat". I can guarantee you that drinking a green mixture will not have the same benefit as eating a diet rich in a diverse variety of fruits and veggies and should only be done when no other resources are available. read more about the downsides of supplements in this article:

Stress is one of the most overlooked health risk factors because it's so normalized. It shouldn't be overlooked because chronic stress affects every system in the body. It can influence our hormones, heart health, weight and health behavior. Read more in my latest blog post!
