Common wart (verruca vulgaris).
These are non-cancerous skin growths caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
Common Options
Warts can sometimes resolve on their own, but if they are painful or spreading, several treatments are available:
–Over-the-Counter (OTC) Solutions: Products containing salicylic acid (liquids, gels, or patches) work by slowly peeling away the layers of the wart. This typically requires daily application over several weeks.
– Cryotherapy (Freezing): OTC kits use dimethyl ether and propane to freeze the tissue. Professional cryotherapy at a clinic uses liquid nitrogen, which is significantly colder and generally more effective.
– Duct Tape Method: Some people find success by covering the wart with duct tape for six days, soaking it in water, gently exfoliating with a pumice stone, and repeating the process.
