Did you know your brain uses about 20% of your body's energyβ€”even though it makes up only about 2% of your body weight?

Your brain is working around the clock to help you think, move, breathe, remember, and process everything happening around you. That is why healthy habits like getting enough sleep, staying hydrated, eating a balanced diet, and staying physically active all play an important role in supporting brain health.

Your brain works hard for you every day. Take good care of it. πŸ’™

SjΓΆgren's disease is one of the most common autoimmune diseases, yet it is often overlooked.

Here are a few important facts:

β–ͺ Women are affected far more often than men.
β–ͺ Dry eyes and dry mouth are the hallmark symptoms, but SjΓΆgren's can affect the entire body.
β–ͺ Fatigue and joint pain are among the most common complaints.
β–ͺ Symptoms can develop gradually and may be mistaken for normal aging or medication side effects.
β–ͺ Early diagnosis and treatment can help manage symptoms and reduce the risk of complications.

If any of these symptoms sound familiar, start a conversation with your physician or medical team. They can help determine whether additional evaluation or referral to a specialist is appropriate.

Awareness is the first step toward better health.

πŸ₯— Recent news about a Cyclospora outbreak may have you wondering if fresh produce is still safe to eat. The good news is that fruits and vegetables remain an important part of a healthy diet. Instead of avoiding them, practice smart food safety habits.

Be extra mindful when handling:
πŸ₯¬ Leafy greens (lettuce, spinach, mixed greens)
🌿 Fresh herbs
🫐 Berries
πŸ₯’ Fresh fruits and vegetables that are eaten raw

Protect yourself by:
βœ” Washing your hands before preparing food
βœ” Rinsing produce under running water (follow package instructions for prewashed items)
βœ” Refrigerating cut fruits and vegetables promptly
βœ” Staying up to date on FDA recalls and CDC outbreak investigations
βœ” Contacting your healthcare provider if you develop prolonged watery diarrhea, severe stomach cramps, or other concerning symptoms after eating fresh produce

Red, itchy skin this summer? Heat rash and yeast infections can look surprisingly similar.

Summer heat can trigger several types of skin rashes, and two common culprits are heat rash and yeast infections. While they may look similar at first, they have different causes and treatments.

β˜€οΈ Heat Rash
β€’ Often develops after sweating or spending time in hot, humid weather
β€’ Looks like small red bumps or tiny blisters
β€’ Common on the neck, chest, back, and skin folds
β€’ Usually improves by staying cool and keeping the skin dry

🦠 Yeast Infection (Skin)
β€’ Often develops in warm, moist areas such as under the breasts, in the groin, or beneath skin folds
β€’ May appear as a bright red rash with itching, burning, or small "satellite" spots around the edges
β€’ Often requires antifungal treatment

If your rash is spreading, painful, does not improve after a few days, or you are unsure what is causing it, your primary care provider can help determine the cause and recommend the right treatment.

Perimenopause and menopause can bring changes throughout the body, and some symptoms may be easier to overlook than others.

Shifting hormone levels can contribute to changes such as hot flashes, sleep disruption, mood changes, dry skin, dry mouth, and changes in gum health. For some women, this may include increased gum sensitivity or bleeding gums when brushing or flossing.

While bleeding gums are often related to oral health, they can also be a sign that something needs attention. If you are noticing new or worsening symptoms during perimenopause or menopause, talk with your physician or medical team.

Your health changes with you, and you do not have to navigate those changes alone.

Summer fun comes with a few health risks worth keeping on your radar. β˜€οΈ

From dehydration and sunburn to heat illness, insect bites, food safety concerns, and seasonal allergies, a little prevention can help you enjoy the season more comfortably and safely.

As always, speak with your healthcare provider if you have symptoms, concerns, or health conditions that may be affected by heat, travel, or outdoor activity.

Before you pull on your board shorts and head into the sun, learn how to keep yourself safe, healthy and protected from nature’s less forgiving aspects (like mosquitos, poison ivy and jellyfish).

This Fourth of July, Times Square is putting a patriotic twist on its famous ball drop, with multiple countdowns planned to honor America’s 250th birthday across every U.S. time zone.

Whether you’re celebrating in the city, watching fireworks, traveling, or keeping things low-key at home, a little planning can help make the holiday healthier and more enjoyable. Stay hydrated, wear comfortable shoes, take cooling breaks, and keep any necessary medications with you if you’ll be out for the day.

Wishing everyone a safe, healthy, and memorable Independence Day weekend!
