In February 2026, New York became the latest state to offer Medical Aid in Dying (MAiD) to residents as an option for terminally-ill patients who meet eligibility criteria to hasten death. Join End of Life Choices New York (EOLCNY) as we share the story of a family whose father utilized MAiD and how this option at the end of his life made for beautiful moments together. Following this presentation, EOLCNY will share MAiD implementation updates for New York State for the upcoming effective date of August 5, 2026.

Today, New York became the 14th jurisdiction in the United States to allow medical aid in dying. As an organization committed to helping individuals and families navigate end-of-life care, we applaud the tireless advocates who fought for the passing of this bill over the past ten years, especially those who could not live to see this day.

The bill will go into effect six months from now. This will give clinicians time to review qualification criteria and build a solid understanding of the bill while they prepare to accept patients.
