I am excited to bring this 90-minute immersive exploration to Bangalore, in collaboration with the STUDIO by Copper + Cloves - a space that embodies the very kind of nourishment and intentionality this practice calls for.

The root energy centre is the seat of stability, safety, and structural support. We’ll explore this chakra through asana, pranayama, guided meditation, mudra, and mantra, and understand what it means to be truly grounded in modern life.

We will work toward shoulderstand and headstand, building with strength, alignment and breath to get there safely.

Dhyana. Thirty three years of meditation.

I started Vipassana meditation in my early twenties, before I fully understood what dhyana meant. It was the most beautiful thing that ever happened to me.

This tradition requires a minimum 10 days of silence, to begin. No reading, writing, speaking, gesturing, eye-contact, gadgets, nothing that’ll take you out of yourself. It is intense.

This is not the path you take to get blissed-out, as one of my teachers told me, it is where you go to meet yourself. Just like the body needs exercise to function well, the mind needs to be disciplined. Meditation is that discipline, without which the ego is in constant search of entertainment. When we live in a culture that feeds on our dissatisfaction and profits from our constant need to consume, this level of quiet and withdrawal can feel terrifying. But when you do meet yourself, it is beyond ecstatic.

Thirty three years and multiple courses later, I sit twice daily. This is my anchor in the storm. Some days the mind is quiet. Most days it isn’t but that’s not the point. Dhyana is the 7th limb of yoga, the one right before Samadhi (awakening) and right after Dharana (concentration). You just keep showing up, and one day, without trying, you’re there.

Begin your meditation practice today. Sit still 5 mins in the morning and 5 mins in the evening. Small consistent steps lead to success.

Healthy hair the Ayurveda way.

I’m often asked the secret to my thick and full hair. There is no secret, just a simple ayurvedic care regimen.

I had fallen trap to colouring my hair for many years and it started to get thin and dry. I shaved it all off one day, and let my hair grow out naturally. My hair feels like it used to when I was a teenager.

Here are some simple tips. When done consistently, these work like magic:

1. Massage (abhyanga) your head for 5 mins before you shower daily, in circular motions with your fingers. This improves blood circulation and nourishes the hair.

2. Wash your hair 1 - 2 times a week. More than that and you’re stripping your hair of its natural oils.

3. Before you wash your hair, massage your scalp with warm coconut or sesame oil, using your fingers to spread from the roots down to the tips. Leave in for 30 mins to a few hours. Wash it out with a mild shampoo and apply conditioner.

4. Avoid dyes and harsh chemicals. They will make your hair dry and brittle over time.

5. Beauty begins from within. Try to eat an organic and mostly plant-based diet. Include dark leafy greens, nuts, seeds and healthy fats.

Health doesn’t just happen. It builds over time with small consistent actions.

My morning Ritual

4:30am - wake up before the city stirs. I enjoy the silence, and the chirping birds.

4:30 - 5:00 am - Abhyanga - massage. Neti - nasal cleansing. Gandusha - oil-pulling. Shower.

5:00 am - An hour of meditation.

6:00 am - Pranayama and Asana practice.

7:00 am - Chai, spiritual study and journal.

8:00 am - I’m ready for the day.

This is my daily rhythm. It grounds me.
