Stay quiet and stay out of the red box unless you have a job. These are rules posted in Bellevue's Trauma Bay, and they apply to anyone who enters.

This month's Bellevue Magazine starts in the Emergency Department, where we imagine how Bellevue's specialized care teams would actually handle Spider-Man walking in with a severe gunshot wound.

This story is our way of celebrating our health care heroes: the ones who wear scrubs and provide excellent care to every New Yorker. Without exception.

On Tuesday, September 8, staff and visitors are invited to Bellevue's South Lobby to write down what they want to remember.

The wall they'll be writing on was built here, by our own carpenters.

"We're proud to build this wall of remembrance for Bellevue's families and staff. The entire team was excited to contribute," said Brian Lokerson, Supervisor Carpenter at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.

The wall is part of a weeklong commemoration ahead of the 25th anniversary of September 11 and its lasting effects on our communities and the nation.

Bellevue's Health and Wellness Team will be hosting the kickoff. Post-its and other supplies will be provided.

Problems with vision and hearing can make a difference in the classroom. Children should have their hearing and vision routinely tested from infant to teen years. If you notice any changes, talk to your child’s doctor.

Ask a trauma surgeon what they eat and you get a very specific answer.

For Ashley Pfaff, MD, Trauma Surgeon and Surgical Critical Care Specialist at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, that can mean lunch at noon... or dinner at 2:00 AM.

When she finally gets a break, she heads to one of two neighborhood favorites: Little River or Cafe Deli-cious.

Watch Dr. Pfaff make the case for both.

Back to School season is about setting our communities up for success.

This past weekend, NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue was proud to join neighbors and community partners at the Jacob Riis Family Day, where we connected families with health resources as they prepare for the new school year.

Our Bellevue Lung Screening and Stop the Bleed teams spoke with community members about the importance of early cancer detection and emergency preparedness. Residents also learned lifesaving bleeding-control techniques that can make a critical difference in a crisis.

Thank you to Council Member Harvey Epstein for your continued support of the Lower East Side community, and to the Jacob Riis Houses community for bringing our neighbors together for a day of education, connection, and fun!

We’re proud to share that Newsweek has named NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue one of America’s Best Physical Rehabilitation Centers for 2026.

This distinction reflects the skill, compassion, and dedication of our physicians, nurses, therapists, and interdisciplinary care teams who help patients recover, rebuild, and regain independence after some of life’s most challenging injuries and illnesses. Bellevue CEO Dr. Eric Wei, MBA, said the recognition is “a tremendous honor and a reflection of the extraordinary expertise and dedication of our Rehabilitation Medicine team.”

For nearly three centuries, Bellevue has been at the forefront of caring for New Yorkers and advancing medicine. Today, that legacy continues through exceptional rehabilitation care delivered to every patient, regardless of background, circumstance, or ability to pay.

Congratulations to our entire Rehabilitation Medicine team on this well-deserved achievement!

Backpacks packed, pencils sharpened, and a whole lot of smiles in the Bellevue Atrium.

Today, NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue hosted our Back to School Giveaway, where we distributed free backpacks and school supplies to pediatric patients and their families. Our team also shared nutrition and healthy habits resources, because healthy habits give kids a head start too.

Every child deserves to walk into the first day of school with supplies and good food. A special thank you to our partners who made this possible:

UA3
Literacy Partners
MetroPlusHealth
Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal
Kristen Gonzalez for New York
Council Member Virginia Maloney
New York State Assembly Member Keith Powers
Assembly Member Harvey Epstein

And thank you to the Bellevue staff and volunteers who showed up to make the day happen. Here's to a great school year!
