Did you ever wonder how Friday the 13th became a huge tattoo tradition? was working at the shop in 2004 and had heard that was doing tattoos on for $20. Danielle asked if she could do them too. The next Friday the 13th a couple other artists wanted to help Danielle. and then in 2005 Fuse TV came in and I told them we had a special coming up on Friday the 13th. Danielle had moved to Atlanta but I thought it would make for a good day of filming. I didn’t realize the impact that video would have. Fuse Network played that video all the time and everyone saw it. There was no turning back after that and over 20 years later we’re still at it. This is an edited shorter version of the show that aired. Enjoy this time capsule from the old days on Ludlow with and they even got at the end. It’s crazy to see the size of those early Friday the 13th tattoos and we were tattooing people on their necks and ribs back then. We’ve streamlined things quite a bit to be able to accommodate more people. the tattoos are $40-$60 these days and we just do arms and legs but it’s still a lot of fun and we always looks forward to seeing our friends and welcoming new people to the shop every Friday the 13th. Wednesday November 19th is screening Tattoo Uprising a film by Alan Govenar of featuring vintage footage of 40 years. Alan was the director for the classic film Stoney Knows How and will be participating in a talk back afterwards with and Mike McCabe. Get your tickets. We hope to see you there!

Happy birthday Lady Liberty! Unveiled 139 years ago October 28, 1886 the Statue of Liberty has been a part of tattooing ever since. Our book, “Liberty the Tattooed Lady” written and curated by celebrates this connection with a collection of vintage flash, stencils, photos and other ephemera by some of the most iconic names in tattoo history.
