On our 300th day to build a birth center we hosted a prenatal and postpartum virtual infant feeding. We had families from New York (Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn), New Jersey, and Connecticut. I could have never dreamed my purpose could take me to the entire Tri-state area.

But I am glad it has.

Day 282  of 1,000 | 1000 Days to Build a Birth Center Campaign 

I am really glad they made the Children's Aid Society. (Cues background jingle)

I remember the day I was invited to the Hope Leadership Academy. It was not long before I traded nights in QB for nights in Taft. I rode out that school MetroCard until the last minute before I could get my last transfer nearly every day. 

I met my  mentor and now SoRHOr there and I will be forever grateful. The foundation for leadership was laid in those 4 walls. I still remember when Oprah redid the basement and gave our hangout space a makeover. So many memories created in that space, possibilities and dreams affirmed. Queensbridge gave me my wings but  I gave myself permission to fly in Harlem.

250 years without birth freedom 🤰🏾

As the world comes together to celebrate freedom, I am reminded of the freedom that is yet to come for the families I serve the freedom that 2.4 million people in Queens County deserve.

Birth freedom!

Instead of figuring out who may or may not have been free, I want to uplift the families who lack access to midwifery care and birth centers. I want to talk about the families who sought care and were mistreated in the process, or worse, paid with the loss of their own lives or the lives of their children.

250 years later, we have yet to let the birth freedom bells ring. 🔔

This year, we are celebrating Birth Center Week, and the theme is Birthing Love, Birthing Power. We invite you not only to envision birth freedom with us, but to build it with us from the ground up.

We are starting this movement in Queens, NY, but we want every county in America to have access to birth center care. Will you help us make that happen?

A MOM who care about those about to cross the sacred threshold into the motherhood.
A MOM who wants more than anything to live this world better than I found it for my babygirl.

We entered this working learning and being apart of a system that was never designed to serve us. Now we are building our own.
