We’re getting real about what makes a great doula, and it’s not about doing more. It’s slowing down, being intentional, listening more than we talk, and checking our egos at the door. The families we serve deserve a doula who is present, not performing.

This kind of growth doesn’t happen in a training. It happens over time, in community, with people who will call you in and hold you accountable.

That’s exactly why we created the CHB Doula Mentorship. It’s an ongoing mentorship for doulas with a one time fee, and you can stay as long as you like. Bring your questions, your struggles, your wins, and your doubts. We’ll be right there with you.

The first hour after birth is often called the golden hour. If your baby is healthy and doesn’t need extra support, they can go straight onto your chest skin to skin with uninterrupted time together. Skin to skin helps regulate their temperature, heart rate, and blood sugar, and it’s a great time to start feeding if that’s your plan. Most routine newborn procedures can wait, and you’re allowed to ask for that. If the birthing person needs some extra care after delivery, a partner can do skin to skin instead.

If your baby needs support right away, bonding can happen later and it still counts. The golden hour is a moment worth protecting when it’s given to us, and we cover how in our childbirth education classes.
