We were lied to. Magic is our birthright. And it lives in your creative pursuits. No idolatry. No giving away your power. No searching outside yourself for permission to become who you are. Only the intentional harnessing of what is true.

I am an artist on a creative journey, but also on a path of ancestral reclamation. And lately, I’ve been asking myself….What does it actually mean to reclaim ancestry? My realization is that there was nothing I needed to do to reclaim it. I was doing it all along.

It was in the art, the performance, the devotion, experimentation…. And all the strange, beautiful paths I took to become me. With that realization, I can intentionally create a new world while honoring the worlds that came before me. These photos and videos are part of that recognition in honoring my participation in the years I spent performing for Chi Chi Valenti and Johnny Dynell’s historic NYC production company, Jackie Factory NYC , and in particular, Night of 1000 Stevies Night of 1000 Stevies . This particular series of photos/videos captures me performing with the incredible Rachel Klein Theatre Rachel Klein , alongside so many extraordinary NYC performers.

For me, ancestral reclamation may look different than it does for someone else. Sometimes reclamation means changing your daily life, your practices, your identity—becoming someone new. And I tried that. But I’m arriving somewhere else now. A place where I don’t need to reject any part of myself in order to evolve. There is no “old me.” Time is nonlinear. All of me belongs here……The artist I was…the artist I’m becoming. I once thought I had to leave behind so much. Not true !!! Perhaps evolution isn’t about becoming someone completely new. maybe it is about becoming more fully integrated and honoring all of it…creating from a more truthful place

For me and from my perspective…This is what it looks and feels like to embody my Italian roots. I grew up in the USA in New York. Much of what was displayed in popular culture, Hollywood stereotypes and the Italian American culture never really resonated with me. Maybe it’s because I have living family in Italy? Maybe it’s because I’m an artist who sees life from a different perspective? I’m not really sure. There can be so many reasons….But nevertheless, this is the Italy I know. I’m not trying to make anyone else right or wrong. This is my truth. For me, being of Italian roots is magic and rooted in earth based practices. I have taken time to step away from the amazing energy of NYC to reconnect with self and the land where my blood belongs. I hold multiple identities….and I think many Americans do. I share this with you to perhaps inspire others to give all sides of you permission to come out, play and live!!! Italy, I love you. Being here I appreciate the beautiful way of life while honoring my curiously American self too. But both are so important to me. And I look forward to sharing more with the U.S. community on things I have learned and explored while here. Ci veddiamo. 💚🤍❤️ 🇮🇹
