On June 19, 1865, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by Abraham Lincoln all of the enslaved people were finally made aware of the Emancipation Proclamation and were officially legally released from their bonds.
Indeed, a great day to recognize and celebrate freedom because itโs the birthright of all beings, and all deserve what our Declaration of Independence states that โโฆall men are created equal.โ In fact, our precious document was initially drafted with a clause denouncing slavery, but later taken out to appease the slave owners, which unfortunately were many who signed this important document. The intention was there, but I guess the โGroup Thinkโ of the times beat out what I believe they knew in their hearts was the right thing. Thatโs why I say, follow your heart and you wonโt go wrong. Hey, we might have avoided the Civil War!
Nevertheless, it was a war that had to be fought, and under the leadership of Republican President Abraham Lincoln, the Union prevailed and emancipation became a reality. While the journey toward equality was far from complete, it was a pivotal step toward a more perfect Union.
It took long enough to rectify that initial intent, and acknowledge that yes, under God all beings are created equal.
Apologies but the history nerd in me came out here with this lengthy post, it happens once in a while.
Make it a great Juneteenth by living well, with joy, love, gratitude and peace. Thatโs what living free is all about.
