A Healthy Gluten-Free January Reset (Without Diet Culture)

January is a natural moment to reset—not through extreme detoxes or restrictive plans, but by returning to foods that help us feel steady, energized, and well. For those living gluten-free, a January reset is less about cutting things out and more about rebuilding meals around whole foods, anti-inflammatory ingredients, and simple, repeatable habits.

After the holidays, many people notice increased bloating, joint stiffness, fatigue, or digestive discomfort. A gluten-free reset focused on real food cooking can help calm inflammation, support digestion, and restore balance—without the pressure of perfection. The goal is not “clean eating” as a moral standard, but eating in a way that feels supportive and sustainable.

Try to:
--Build meals around whole foods rather than packaged substitutes

--Prioritize digestion, energy, and satiety over calorie counting

January works best when it’s about re-establishing rhythm, not chasing perfection.

Skip the dessert, and go for the pecans!
I LOVE all things sweet. And these are my go-to sweet treat --- I know that pecans are much healthier than traditional desserts.

When you’re craving sugar, instead of reaching for that candy bar, reach for all-natural pecans. They have a slightly sweet taste AND they are chock full of antioxidants.

They are high in fiber so they will help curb your hunger and even help you lose weight.

Pecans are a "superfood" that will protect your heart from heart disease and protect your brain from all kinds of disease. They are also high in monounsaturated fats which can help reduce your risk of heart disease.

So grab a handful and enjoy!

Drink up!

Tea including black, white, long, red and green teas have been enjoyed for 5000 years. During all this time, people believed that tea had great health benefits and could purify or detox your body from a wide variety of ailments.

Researchers have proven that these ideas are indeed correct and have demonstrated that tea can help lower your blood pressure, help you lose weight and burn belly fat, lower your risk for many conditions including cancer, stroke, heart disease, and obesity, and can improve your cardiovascular health.

Green tea in particular is beneficial in boosting your immunity and lowering your cholesterol while also supercharging your weight loss. (photo courtesy of Laårk Boshoff)

Whenever I went to my nonna's house as a kid, she always had a nice plate of swiss chard and tomato waiting for me.

Swiss chard, a popular southern Italian veggie, is rich in vitamin K and vitamin A as well as antioxidants --such as beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin-- and flavonoids -- such as quercetin and kaempferol.

Basically, eating a delicious dish of swiss chard for lunch will help improve your eye health, decrease your blood pressure, and help your athletic performance. Win-win!

If you haven't tried swiss chard yet, try it now! Recipe forthcoming in The Gluten-Free Skinny in the Kitchen, due out in August.
