Malakai Carey will be honored as a rider on this year’s float. Sponsored by OneLegacy

Malakai was diagnosed at the age of 11 with a rare form of liver cancer. After many months of chemo and multiple surgeries at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, it was determined that he would need a liver transplant. His parents received a call that there was a donor with the perfect liver for Malakai’s body. However, he was second in line. His family waited with anticipation by the phone. Around 10 am the next morning, his family received THE CALL! Malakai was being fast-tracked into surgery, and his parents needed to hurry and get him to the hospital! On November 25th, 2019, Malakai received the best gift anyone could ever give: the gift of life! His family is forever grateful that the donor family chose life after death, chose to give to another selflessly, and chose to say yes! Malakai is now 16, a high school junior, living life to its fullest with gratitude and thanks!

LiveOnNY honors the remarkable life of Lauren Marks; an Organ Donor Hero and a heart recipient. Lauren's journey, though heartbreakingly concluded at the age of 35, leaves behind a legacy of extraordinary courage and selflessness. As a heart transplant recipient and LiveOnNY Volunteer, Lauren not only fought bravely for her own life but extended that fight to others as an organ donor, offering a second chance at life.

We at LiveOnNY are deeply inspired and profoundly grateful for Lauren's remarkable spirit. Her involvement in organ donation support groups showcased her dedication to the cause, offering hope and encouragement to many facing similar battles. Lauren's empathy and willingness to share her story strengthened the organ donation community, making her a beacon of light for many.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Lauren's husband Jonathan, their daughter Sophia, and all who were touched by her incredible life. Lauren's story of resilience and love will forever resonate within our community, reminding us of the powerful impact one individual can have.

Lauren Marks, a true hero, leaves an indelible mark on the world of organ donation and in the hearts of those who knew her.
