What is PRF, and how is PRF different from PRP or dermal filler?

PRF, or platelet-rich fibrin, is a regenerative aesthetic treatment created from your own blood. After your blood is drawn and processed, the platelet- and fibrin-rich portion can be used to support collagen production, tissue remodeling, skin quality, and natural-looking rejuvenation.

As a Physician Assistant injector in New York City, PRF has become one of my favorite treatments—especially for patients searching for a more regenerative approach to under-eye hollowing, crepey under-eye skin, early facial volume changes, and overall skin quality.

Here’s the simple comparison:

PRF vs PRP vs filler: PRF and PRP are both created from your own blood, but PRF is processed to preserve a fibrin-rich matrix that supports a gradual release of signaling factors. Dermal filler, on the other hand, adds injectable material to create structural support or volume. PRF focuses on stimulating and supporting your own tissue rather than creating the same type of immediate volume you would expect from filler.

That distinction matters.
