Honored to see the story of the 2026 Hippocratic Medical Symposium featured by Εθνικός Κήρυξ / The National Herald (in English, photos by Caroline Vokas).

This was a powerful gathering of innovators, physicians, artists, leaders, and changemakers committed to shaping the future of medicine, humanity, and global collaboration. It all came together thanks to the vision and tireless work of HMS President Dr. Antonios Gasparis.

We are truly grateful to all of you who helped make this year’s symposium such a meaningful success, and appreciate The National Herald team for highlighting the conversations, vision, and community that made it all so special.

Immense thanks to the Symposium's Sponsors whose generosity and belief in our mission continue to inspire and sustain us-- Bank of America, Dr. George Yancopoulos, M.D, Ph.D., Costas Picadas, Medtronic, Tactile Medical, Amgen, Eli Lilly and Company, Kestra Medical Technologies, Inc., Novo Nordisk, Boston Scientific, Theraclion, Northwell Health, and to our very own Dr. George Liakeas, Dr, Spyros Mezitis, Dr. Panos Manolas, Dr. Alexandros Sarantopoulos, Maria Marinakis, Kalliope Vourakis, Leslie Segura, Dora, Andrianna and Margarita Gasparis, Olivia Athas, Andreana Moustakis, Alexandra Bekiaridou.

At Gracie Mansion yesterday afternoon, HMS and a range of Greek organizations came together in a rare and meaningful way—bringing medicine, culture, politics, education and our faith into one room.

It wasn’t just a celebration of our history and heritage, but a reflection of how Greek identity continues to evolve and contribute across disciplines. From white coats to clergy to civic leaders to medical students, the gathering captured a shared sense of purpose and connection.

As always, we are deeply honored to be recognized by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America and the
Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

There’s something powerful about standing in a room where history, identity, and purpose all converge—and these last two weeks have been full of moments like these.

Representing HMS, we are reminded what a privilege it is to be part of our Greek-American community; a community built not just on heritage, but on action. On generosity. On the unwavering belief that where we come from should shape how we give back.

Today, at the Greek Independence Day celebration at Gracie Mansioni, we gathered to honor that spirit, surrounded by leaders who embody it. From New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani to His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, alongside Consul General of Greece Ifigeneia Kanara and of Cyprus Kyriakos Pogiatzis—each presence was a reminder of the bridges we continue to build between past and future, homeland and diaspora.

Last weekend we were thrilled to attend the Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity's Gala honoring Markos and Maria Marinakis - a couple whose philanthropy knows no limits and whose impact is felt in the US and in our homeland.

We were filled with joy to attend the Hermes Expo Gala and watch Paul Kotrotsios Full and Aphrodite Kotrotsios in action, continuing a legacy that started from a simple idea over 35 years ago. Watching the teenagers perform Greek traditional dances during the gala was a real treat.

A few days before that, our Board had the opportunity and the pleasure to support The Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York Gala the night before the Greek Independence Day Parade. It's never lost on us, no matter how busy and crazy our schedules get, how fortunate we are to have our community and to be able to show up and support one another.

But what stayed with us most wasn’t just the setting or the distinguished guests and honorees—it was the shared sense of pride. Honoring fellow Greeks whose success has never distanced them from their roots, but instead deepened their commitment to uplift others. And perhaps most meaningful of all: experiencing it together as a team and, on occasion, with our HMS young professionals. Passing on not just tradition, but a standard. A responsibility. A vision of what it means to carry our culture forward with integrity and impact.

Building on the momentum of prior years, this highly anticipated event will deliver cutting-edge insights across the full spectrum of cardiovascular prevention and intervention — from transformative lifestyle strategies to the most advanced therapeutic innovations — with a powerful and continued emphasis on women’s heart health.

We greatly appreciate the thoughtful coverage of the Hellenic Medical Society's inaugural Hippocratic Medical Symposium. This piece posted on Anamniseis captures not only the substance and the spirit of HMS's work, but also our commitment to advancing medicine, fostering community, and supporting the next generation of medical professionals. By bringing these stories to a wider audience, you help amplify the impact of the symposium far beyond the room itself.

Thank you for your support and for helping us continue a legacy nearly a century in the making.

Our sincere thanks to Εθνικός Κήρυξ / The National Herald for highlighting the success of the inaugural Hippocratic Medical Symposium which took place in New York City on April 19, 2026. In his opening remarks, HMS President Antonios Gasparis, MD, said: "I am truly honored to stand before you today. This is not just another
event. It is a rare moment. One that feels both like a beginning and a
culmination. This year, we celebrate 90 years of the Hellenic Medical
Society. 90 years of commitment to medicine, to education, to community, and to progress. 90 years of people showing up for one another, across generations, across disciplines, and across continents, united by a shared purpose. And today, on a Sunday morning—many would say the most competitive time slot of the week—you chose to be here. You chose this room over sleep, over brunch, over time with your families. And some of you brought your families with you, which makes that choice even more meaningful. Moments like this don’t happen by accident. They happen because people believe in something bigger than themselves. They happen because you believe that what we are building together matters…not just for us, but for the generations that will follow us. This symposium is more than a milestone, it is a signal. A signal that we are stepping forward with intention. That we are creating a space where ideas meet action, where disciplines intersect, and where we challenge ourselves to think not only about where medicine is today, but where it must go next."

Και του χρόνου με υγεία—may we all gather again next year, in health! A day of profound pride as the Hellenic Medical Society joined the Greek Independence Day parade, standing in celebration of our Hellenic descent and the enduring spirit of Greece. It was deeply moving to feel the crowd’s support and hear so many voices cheering on our homeland as well as our doctors, a reminder of the trust and gratitude that binds our community. From our young professionals walking, or floating, proudly alongside us, to the little children echoing ‘Long Live Greece,’ every moment carried its own special meaning. And, as always, the Evzones embodied the dignity and strength of our heritage, leaving us inspired and honored to be part of something so timeless.

Our thanks to everyone who joined us for the parade, The Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York, our Board of Directors and their spouses who attended the parade gala and supported the Federation and the work they do. Last but certainly not least, a VERY SPECIAL THANKS to HMS President Dr. Antonios Gasparis who generously sponsored the HMS parade float through Northwell Vein Care.

WE SHOW UP. Rain can try. The sun can compete. Neither is the main event. We are!

Umbrella in one hand and sunglasses in the other—because the sun is Greek. It knows timing. It WILL make an entrance.
