August is Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Awareness Month 🌿

And we’re spending the whole month talking about it — because too many people are living with these symptoms and chalking them up to “just getting older” or “just having kids.”

This is a big moment for pelvic health 🙌

PelviCon is the first conference created entirely for pelvic PT and OT clinicians, and every year it gathers the leaders, innovators, and educators shaping the future of our specialty.

In 2026, Dr. Amy Stein will take the PelviCon stage for the first time, speaking on endometriosis and post-excision rehab alongside an extraordinary lineup of speakers from across the globe.

In-person tickets sold out in four minutes 😦 but the Live Virtual + Replay option is still available, so you can learn from this group wherever you are. If you’ve been waiting for education that feels relevant, practical, and deeply aligned with your work, this is it.

Pelvic floor PT is more than exercises and manual therapy 🌿

When you come in for an evaluation at Beyond Basics PT, we look at the whole picture. Bowel or urinary dysfunction? We want to know about your diet, stress levels, nervous system, sleep, and daily movement habits. Sexual dysfunction? We want to understand your relational dynamics, your anxieties around intimacy, and what’s showing up emotionally.

Pelvic PT takes into account your mind, your body, and your environment. And none of that works without trust between you and your therapist.

If you’ve been dealing with symptoms and feeling like something is being missed, this is the kind of care you deserve 🧡 What’s one symptom you wish someone had taken seriously sooner? Tell us in the comments 💬

Vulvodynia treatment isn’t one size fits all. What works for one person might not work for another, and most people benefit from a combination of approaches rather than just one 🧡

The important thing? You have options. And the right team can help you figure out which ones make sense for you.

Which of these have you tried? Drop it in the comments👇

5 stretches your pelvic floor actually needs 🌿

Most people don’t realize how connected your hips, inner thighs, and low back are to your pelvic floor. These five stretches target all of it:

🔸 Adductor lunge stretch — inner thighs, hold 30 seconds
🔸 Standing hip flexor stretch — front of the hip, tuck your tailbone to deepen it, hold 20-30 seconds
🔸 Hamstring stretch on your back — back of the thighs, hold 15 seconds (or 5 second pulses if you’re tight)
🔸 Happy baby or heel hold stretch — pelvic floor and hip rotators, deep breaths here
🔸 Child’s pose — low back and pelvic floor, hold 30 seconds to 1 minute and breathe into the tension

Save this for your next mobility session 📲

Vaginismus is more common than most people realize 💗 And no, it’s not something you caused.

For many, this experience is rooted in the body’s protective response. Pelvic floor muscles tighten automatically, often in response to pain, stress, hormonal shifts, or past experiences. That tightening can make pe*******on during s*x, exams, or tampon use feel painful or impossible.

What’s important to know 👉🏼 Vaginismus is rarely about just one thing.

It’s often influenced by a combination of factors like
✨ Pelvic floor muscle tension
✨ Hormonal changes
✨ Recurrent UTIs or yeast infections
✨ Trauma or past pain experiences
✨ Nervous system sensitivity
✨ Psychological stress or fear responses

Your body is not broken. It’s responding to something it’s learned to protect against 🧠🤍 And with the right support, those patterns can change. If this resonates with you, know that help exists and you don’t have to navigate this alone.
