Sometimes friendships shift as we get older. Old friends may grow in different directions, and new friendships may not always click right away. That does not mean anything is wrong with you. It simply means connection is something that works best when it feels natural.

Being social is important for healthy aging, but you do not need to force yourself into friendships that feel uncomfortable, one-sided, or out of alignment. As many people over 50 and 60 start to retire and relocate, people in that age group are making new friends more than ever before.

Be open. Be curious. Keep showing up in the world. But also be patient enough to wait for the people who feel easy to laugh with, safe to be honest with, and good to be around.

The right people may not arrive all at once, but when they do, you will feel the difference.

Remember, it’s quality and connection over quantity.
