To be a woman is to understand the confinements before you understand the possibilities. I remember growing up in a world where we rarely saw the strong, outspoken, driven, athletic, or passionate parts of a woman being celebrated.
And to be so very clear, those things often come at the cost of peoples perception of us, their assumptions about who we are, how we act, and who we’re meant to be.
Moments like this remind me why it’s still a rebellious act to build a relationship with your body rather than exclusively focusing what she looks like.
Because the more you appreciate all your body can do, you start to realize the power you’ve always had, the strength that’s innately within you, the wisdom within your words, the inspiration you carry without even noticing it, the change you’re making by speaking up and speaking OUT, the history you’re changing by showing other women they HAVE and WILL always be SO more than how their body looks.
So here’s to all the women that are out here teaching us how POWERFUL it is to appreciate our bodies for ALL they are and ALL they continue to do
