World Yoga Center

World Yoga Center The World Yoga Center welcomes students of all ages, traditions and backgrounds, at every level of ability. We are very proud of the World Yoga Center.

Through the Yoga practices, students embark on a transformative journey of awakenment while developing bodies that glow with health. Decades after we opened our doors in 1972, we are still here at our original address. Only Yoga has been practiced in our beautiful space and the atmosphere here is unusually pristine and serene. The name ”World Yoga Center” was inspired by the International World Y

oga Symposium held in New Delhi, India, in 1970. Our name reminds us that the teachings and practices of Yoga are universal, embrace divisions of East and West, and have become compatible with modern living. Yoga provides transformational knowledge that radically awakens us to the mystery of life. This underlying vision and the deep intention of Yoga sustain the World Yoga Center and drive it forward.

Taking a Pause for the Deep Summer
It’s the last week of the month of August!

Our AC has served us for over 20 years and it is time for us to upgrade, replacing our full system for the years to come.

Using this quietest time at the WYC to complete this project is ideal, as a portion of our community heads for the mountains on retreat during these same days.

So many of you have shared in the pristine comfort of our beautiful summer classes. We’ll enjoy these last weeks of summer together as we head towards the Fall Equinox.

With love and blessings,
Rudrani and Julia

☀️ Friday, August 28 - Monday, August 31

Teacher Highlight, Jacalyn Prete!

Jackie’s passion for teaching yoga has brought her on a magical journey that started in 1990 with Sharon Gannon of Jivamukti. She left the world of musical theater and embarked on a new path to discover the inner realms of her own heart. She trained in Vinyasa yoga with the White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara and Cyndi Lee at Om Yoga Center teaching at Equinox and World Gym in the early 90’s. After a serious lower back injury she began a very deep study of Iyengar yoga with Genny Kapular and Mary Dunn.

Jackie met John Friend in 1998 and became a Certified Anusara Yoga Teacher in 2001. She is honored to serve as Chairperson of the Certification Committee for the new Anusara School of Hatha Yoga. Jackie was invited to teach in Japan by Yasushi Tanaka in 2005 and has returned annually ever since to train teachers and students in Anusara yoga and Therapeutics.

Jackie is the owner of Ram Sangha Retreats and leads retreats in Mexico, Costa Rica, upstate New York and Italy. This community is dedicated to practicing yoga and meditation in the beauty of nature deepening the student’s connection to their own true Nature.

In 2004 Jackie began collaborating with Rudrani Farbman, Director of the World Yoga Center, teaching Immersions, Retreats and Teacher Training programs. This deep connection has flourished and continues to mentor and train highly skilled yoga and meditation teachers who are connected to the essence of yoga.

Jackie currently sees 200 students every week in her NYC classes at the World Yoga Center, Pure Yoga and Equinox Fitness clubs. She has also led Advanced Teacher Training programs in therapeutics at Pure Yoga in NYC.

Take a Level 1 class with Jacalyn on Tuesdays at 10am!

Find satsang recordings on our website under the tab “Meditation” to listen to these gems from the past!

Satsang recordings are open to all people, on any level of practice, who are seeking a conscious path. Participants have chosen a teaching we call a Theme and Rudrani offers an hour-long exploration followed by group chanting, meditation and sharing.

These opening talks on the theme contain wisdom, both traditional and relevant personal tales, and we bask in co-created support of the inner journey for everyone present. How to apply these particular teachings in our daily lives emerges as the evening unfolds.

May we all be nourished by shared wisdom and drawn deeper into relationship with one another and with our own Self.

1972 - Impacted by the tutelage of teachers of the mystical traditions of the East and extraordinary Western teachers of the consciousness-raising generation of the seventies, Rudrani opened the school with Hatha classes, meditation courses and retreats in the style of Integral Yoga.

In 2001 the World Yoga Center chose Anusara Yoga as its method of Hatha Yoga as it includes a strong foundation in the Ta***ic philosophy of unity awareness and fosters an inner opening to infinite energies within oneself. Teachings emanating from Anusara Yoga are based on the ancient philosophies of the Shaivite tradition of Kashmir. This method of hatha yoga circulates refined energy through the inner body with clear, natural alignment, attention to anatomical detail and an integration of the whole self.

The WYC became a nonprofit organization in order to fully align with our true purpose and spirit.

Nonprofit status has allowed us to:
-protect the school’s visionary roots and independence.
-ensure that our community—not any single person or company—cares for and sustains this sacred space.
-support our teachers and appreciate their skills and commitment.
-welcome practitioners of every background, ability, and financial status with openness and respect.
