join us in wishing a very happy birthday to yael alkalay, red flower founder + ceo 🎁

for more than 25 years, yael has followed scent, nature, and the art of well-being wherever they lead — creating a world where beauty is deeply connected to how we feel, live, move, and care for ourselves.

what began with six petal-topped candles in 1999 continues to grow through a constant curiosity about the natural world, thoughtful craftsmanship, and the belief that everyday moments can be made more meaningful.

happy birthday, yael. here is to another year of inspiration, discovery, and beauty in all its forms. 🌹

summer is not over yet.

italian blood orange is bright, juicy and sun-warmed — the kind of scent that brings back open windows, golden afternoons, bare skin and dinners that stretch a little later.

use it in an outdoor shower. light it in the last golden light of evening. let the scent hold onto summer for a few more days.

because sometimes the easiest way to stay in a season is to remember it through scent.

what scent reminds you most of summer?

sometimes, all it needs is a different scent.

scent has the power to shift the energy of a space, simply by changing the botanical notes that surround you.

citrus can bring brightness and energy. lavender and sandalwood can create a softer, calmer atmosphere. peperina can feel fresh, uplifting and invigorating. woods can ground. florals can soften.

the room has not changed. the furniture has not moved. the light is the same.

one simple sensory shift can create an entirely different experience.
that is the power of scentscaping.

what does your space need today: energy, calm, grounding or uplift?

long before wellness became a practice, nature was the place we turned to instinctively — for nourishment, renewal, beauty and belonging.

red flower is guided by the biophilia hypothesis: the idea that humans possess an innate affinity for living things and the natural world.

a hand brushing through petals. sunlight through leaves. the texture of plant oils on skin. the scent of a fresh rose. the quiet presence of trees.

these small encounters can reconnect us to something ancient and essential.
as naturalist edward o. wilson wrote, “splendor awaits in minute proportions.”

sometimes, wellness is simply noticing what has been around us all along. 🌿

consider this your reminder to step outside. and send this to someone who join you.

why are there petals on top of each red flower candle?

this red flower signature has remained since the first candles were sold at barney’s new york in 1999.

yael set out to provide a moment of presence. instead of quickly lighting the candle and moving on, you are greeted with something real, something alive.

once you remove the petals to light the candle, the ritual becomes yours. toss them into a bath. delicately scent a drawer. add them to a sachet and toss in a suitcase, so your favorite scent joins you on your adventures.

what would you do with your petals? tell us below.

summer leaves a trace on the skin. sun, salt water, heat — prepare for the season ahead with a simple reset.

pure, unfiltered sea salt buffs away what the season left behind, while safflower, avocado and sweet almond oils soften what remains. nothing stripped. nothing rushed.

skin feels renewed, the simple way.

are you ready for the end-of-summer reset, or are you holding on to the last rays of the season?

the best hotel scents stay with you long after the trip is over. a fragrance in a lobby, the scent of a spa, or the subtle aroma in a guest room can become woven into the memory of a place—and the emotions you felt while you were there.

the most memorable hotel scents are not necessarily the strongest. they are evocative, balanced and distinctive enough to become part of the experience.

because scent has a way of bringing you back: to a favorite hotel, a faraway city, a summer morning or a feeling you thought you'd forgotten.

what hotel scent or travel memory has stayed with you?
