Donate Life Month Patient Spotlight: Joia Ponticello!
Yesterday, Joia joined leadership from Donate Life New York State for a press conference in support of legislation to increase organ and tissue donor registration and expand access to life-saving transplants for New Yorkers in need. The event also served as the kickoff for Donate Life America National Donate Life Month, held every April across the U.S.
Last month, our nurse educator, Eliza Bensley, joined Joia at Dutchess Community College Living Donor Learning Symposium and Education fair, an event dedicated to raising awareness of the gift of living organ donation.
We couldn't be prouder to call Joia our patient!

Living Kidney donor, Joe Buser reflects on his recent experience at our program: "NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill-Cornell Medical Center Kidney Transplant was the best place to have this life-changing procedure. I felt special, welcomed, and appreciated from the first meeting and test. The entire living donor team, from Chanel to my care nurses to Dr. Del Pizzo's surgical team, was amazing, and they made me confident that my recipient (a dear friend of 40+ years) and I were in the best hands possible. Thank you from the bottom of my heart." Pictured (in one of the best T-shirts we have seen all year) are Joe and his 14 S Nurses, James Earl Zabala, RN BSN, and Caroline Ugbogbo, MSN, ANP-C
