And thus the mulching begins. Y’all this takes for freakin ever to get it from the top of the property down to this garden 🥵 And if anyone can think of a better way to move it around once I drive the load dow to the small garden gate entry…. Besides one shovel full at a time…. Let me know!

These poor plants are looking bedraggled after fighting w**ds all year. But I’m hoping they make a little comeback before the frost, now that they are extricated from the w**ds and tucked in nicely with the mulch.

A cacophony of sounds 😂 from power tools to buzzing bees to a full day of great tunes pumping through the portable speaker. Yep! It’s loud and it’s fun to work on our land!

A little close up of the endless summer hydrangeas next to the cabin. Hopefully this propagation trick works, and I can eventually turn this into one long “hedge” of hydrangeas to cover up the view underneath the cabin. I figure even if the hydrangeas don’t reliably bloom, it’ll still be a pretty backdrop for my echinacea and other flowers I add here.

Vignettes from Day 2. Enjoying wildlife while we w**d eat the garden, pull up the annoying landscape fabric, build a fire pit, pick apples, chop up fallen trees, and bake an apple galette.

The dream team was hard at work this week! Here’s day 1 getting started on the VERY overgrown gardens by the cabin. The rain brought a gorgeous double rainbow and a much needed afternoon of rest. Thanks soooo much to Chad Williams and Alex Quezada for all your help. We literally couldn’t have done it without you!

Stay tuned to see everything we got done this week!

Finished up the digging on the new French drain by the outhouse. Now we just need the pipe and rocks.

The garden is looking pretty cute for year 1, if I do say so myself 💁🏻‍♀️ Can’t wait to see how much all the plants grow next year, especially if I can manage to keep the deer from eating them in the fall and spring 🤞

Day one working on the French drain around the outhouse garden. I’m also building a berm to keep water from flowing across the path. Ultimately we probably need a long berm and swale for the whole meadow/path boundary, with apple trees to replace the old ones on the hill that fell in all the rain this month.

Made a few updates to the outhouse garden this week, taking plants out of pots that were drying out too much between watering, and adding some echinacea too. I’m planning to add mint to the pots instead, which is happier without so much watering and also helps keep away pests.
