The excitement of the World Cup often brings friends and family together to cheer, snack, celebrate and stay up for “just one more match”. 🎉
But match-day habits can add up quickly. Sugary drinks, alcohol, salty snacks, fried foods, late nights and hours of sitting can all affect the body in different ways, from energy and digestion to blood sugar, blood pressure, sleep and heart health.
The good news? You don’t need to skip the fun.
A few simple choices can help you enjoy the football while still looking after your health.
Here are two healthier match-day snacks to try:
🥣 Roasted Chickpeas
Ingredients:
• 2 cups cooked chickpeas (or canned, rinsed and drained)
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• 1 tsp paprika
• ½ tsp garlic powder
• Black pepper
Method: Pat the chickpeas dry, toss with the oil and seasonings, then roast at 200°C for 25 to 30 minutes until golden and crispy.
💚 Why they’re good for you: High in fibre and plant-based protein, they’re a satisfying alternative to crisps.
🍌 Banana Peanut Butter Bites
Ingredients:
• 2 bananas, sliced
• 2 tbsp natural peanut butter
• Cinnamon (optional)
Method: Top each banana slice with a little peanut butter, sprinkle with cinnamon and serve.
💚 Why they’re good for you: Bananas provide fibre and potassium, while peanut butter adds protein and healthy fats to help keep you satisfied.
