Mr. Bigs is home. 💙

This brave 7-month-old Great Dane mix came to us very sick with parvovirus — a serious, highly contagious virus that can be life-threatening in puppies and young dogs.

After intensive care, a deeply dedicated owner, and a huge team effort from our staff, Mr. Bigs is now home and doing well. 🐾

As a small general practice clinic, we are not typically set up to hospitalize highly contagious infectious disease cases like parvo. In this case, there were extenuating circumstances, and our team created a temporary isolation setup so we could help him receive the care he needed. This is not something we are routinely able to accommodate, but we are grateful we were able to help Mr. Bigs.

Huge thank-you to his owner for sharing their story and helping educate others about why puppy vaccines matter so much — and huge thank-you to the Uptown Paws team for everything that went into his care, from isolation setup, to treatment, to the massive cleaning and disinfection process afterward.

For our clients: strict isolation protocols were followed the entire time. Our surgical suite was sealed and temporarily converted into an isolation space, and everything was thoroughly disinfected during and after his stay using appropriate parvocidal protocols to protect the safety of all patients.

Please vaccinate your puppies. Parvo is brutal — but preventable.

A very special update from one of our bravest patients: Mr. Bigs. 💙

This sweet 7-month-old Great Dane mix recently came to us very sick with parvovirus — a serious, highly contagious, and potentially life-threatening virus that we unfortunately still see in under-vaccinated puppies and young dogs.

Thanks to intensive care, a very dedicated owner, and a team that jumped into action immediately, Mr. Bigs is now home and doing well. 🐾

We are so grateful to his owner for sharing their story and helping educate others about how important puppy vaccines truly are. Parvo is devastating, but vaccination is one of the best tools we have to prevent it.

As a small general practice clinic, we are not typically set up to hospitalize highly contagious infectious disease cases like parvo. In Mr. Bigs’ case, there were extenuating circumstances, and our team made the decision to create a temporary isolation setup so we could help him receive the care he needed. I also want to give a huge thank-you to our entire Uptown Paws team. Caring for a parvo patient requires a massive behind-the-scenes effort: preparing isolation protocols, converting our surgical suite into a sealed temporary isolation space, providing intensive supportive care, and then performing extensive cleanup and disinfection afterward. Every single person on our team helped make this possible.

A quick note for our clients: while Mr. Bigs was hospitalized, strict isolation protocols were followed at all times. Our surgical suite was fully sealed off and used as a temporary isolation room, and all areas, equipment, and surfaces were meticulously disinfected during and after hospitalization using appropriate parvocidal cleaning protocols to ensure the safety of every patient in our care.

We are so happy this big guy is back home where he belongs. 💙

It’s Dr. B’s birthday today 🎉🐾

And instead of cake… she’s requested wagging tails, happy purrs, and as many furry drop-ins as possible.

If your pup or kitty wants to swing by the clinic to wish her a happy birthday, she’ll be here soaking up the love (and handing out treats, obviously). Dogs, cats — all VIPs welcome.
