Congratulations to our Faculty Coordinator Genevieve Smith, PT, DPT, OCS, AIB-VRC! She recently earned her EdD in Movement Science from Teacher's College, Columbia University 🎓
Genevieve's concentration was in Motor Learning and Control, with a focus on cognitive motor interference of postural control. During her time at Columbia, Genevieve gained expertise in teaching and learning, clinical inquiry and research, and the biomechanical analysis of human movement.
Genevieve's dissertation thesis, "Sensory Integration and Cognitive Motor Interference in Older Adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment," examined sensory integration and cognitive motor interference of postural control in older adults with and without mild cognitive impairment. APDM wearable sensors were used to collect postural sway data while participants completed static balance tests with a dual cognitive task. The results suggest older adults with mild cognitive impairment demonstrate different task prioritization strategies compared to cognitively healthy older adults during static balance conditions.
Genevieve says she is especially thankful to her mentors and colleagues at Spear for their consistent support throughout this journey to make it possible for her to achieve this dream. Congratulations to Genevieve on this huge accomplishment! 🎉
