When the 2014-16 Ebola outbreak reached the shores of the United States and the COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on the world, Global Health Security catapulted to the forefront of public health concerns. A critical lesson of the pandemic was that, in today’s thoroughly interconnected world, an outbreak in one part of the world can pose a threat to people around the planet. Putting in place effective systems to prevent, detect and respond to infectious disease threats has now become a global priority and a focal point of the America First Global Health Strategy. And with many in the field convinced that it is only a matter of time before the world faces another deadly cross-border health threat, the priority has taken on new urgency.

This ICAP Grand Rounds Webinar will look at four key themes in Global Health Security through the eyes of epidemiological experts leading critical projects on three continents. In rapid-fire presentations, the speakers will lay out the challenges they are tackling and discuss how their initiatives are putting up bulwarks against threats that could endanger lives, disrupt economies, and even destabilize countries.
