Realism, mythology, strange little creatures, and combinations that probably should not work together.

That is generally where my favorite designs begin.

I’m Ali, a tattoo artist working in Bushwick, Brooklyn. I make unique tattoos and one of a kind pre-drawn flash that blend realism with illustrative black and grey.

If your reference folder currently looks like a museum archive, a creature manual, and the inside of your brain all got shuffled together, I would very much like to see it.

I love tattoos that are not fan art in the obvious sense. They’re pieces that carry a story without announcing it to everyone who walks by.

A story about transformation. About what war leaves behind. About keeping a little fire alive.

Thank you for trusting me with this one, and for reminding me that stories don’t end when the credits roll. They just find new places to live.

We can be serious and playful.
Soft and resilient.
Drawn to structure one day and a little chaos the next.

I think the best pieces leave room for a few contradictions.

This one has been built over a few sessions, and I loved getting to watch all the separate pieces slowly start speaking to each other.

The jewelry, the sari, the tiger prowling down the arm.. Somewhere along the way it stopped being a collection of references and became its own universe.

We spend our lives collecting things.

A family heirloom. 
The way a friend laughs.
That one movie scene we romanticize.

Eventually, these things stop feeling like companions on our journey and start feeling more like little pieces of us.

A watchful dagger from Pans Labyrinth, a final sword wielder taking down a king, Truman as our social media Christ and a heart for Manon and the Thirteen.
