🍂 Hello, October — our second “ber” month and another step closer to the end of the year.

As we move into the final months of 2026, this is a good time to check in on your health goals and make the rest of the year count. We still have a few months left in the year. Small, intentional changes now can still make a meaningful difference before 2027.

Last day of PCOS Awareness Month

I had PCOS.
I had endometriosis.
I was once wrongly told I had endometrial cancer.
I was also told pregnancy would be very difficult for me, and that if I did get pregnant, I could miscarry. Like telling me “huwag ka na magtry.”

But today, I have my son — conceived naturally, without drugs, without fertility medications.

I know every woman’s journey is different, and faith does not replace medical care. But one thing that carried me through fear, uncertainty, and everything I was told was this:

100% faith in God.

Maybe that is the reminder someone needs on this last day of PCOS Awareness Month:

Do what you can.
Take care of your body.
Seek the care you need.
Learn about your health.

And then trust God with the parts you cannot control.

Remember this, the story you were told is not the final story.

As a Functional Medicine Practitioner, I don’t shop for “superfoods.” I shop for real food.

Today’s grocery haul is full of heart-healthy, high-potassium whole foods that support healthy blood pressure, hormones, metabolic health, and overall wellness.

These foods provide potassium, fiber, antioxidants, protein, and other nutrients that help nourish the body and support long-term health.

No magic pills. No detox teas.

Just real food.

Food first. Always. đź’š

What is one whole food that is always in your grocery cart?

I created Lab Access For ALL™ for the people who are too often left behind:

• The uninsured
• The underinsured
• Individuals whose insurance keeps denying services or testing they need
• People afraid to seek care
• Those struggling to navigate the U.S. healthcare system
• Patients who feel dismissed, unheard, or told “everything is normal” when they still don’t feel well

EVERYONE deserves access to healthcare.

Lab Access For ALL™
Access. Education. Empowerment.

Owned and Founded by Joan Lu, PhD, RN, PHN, BC-FMP

Because access to one’s own health data should not depend on income, insurance status, or immigration status.

EVERYONE deserves access to their own health information.

As a Functional Medicine Practitioner, this is why I chose Straus Heavy Whipping Cream over many other options in the dairy aisle.

âś” Organic
âś” One ingredient
âś” No unnecessary gums or thickeners
âś” Rich, creamy taste

When I buy food, I try to choose options that are as close to their original form as possible.

If you’re dealing with digestive issues, acne, inflammation, PCOS, or other chronic symptoms, dairy may be one of the foods worth evaluating with a qualified healthcare professional.

For those who tolerate dairy well, reading ingredient labels and choosing simpler products can be a small step toward a less processed diet.

Food is information. Your body is the feedback.

I used to buy fresh beets and juice them myself.

These days, when I don’t have the time, I buy Lakewood Organic Beet Juice.

Beets contain natural nitrates that support nitric oxide production. Nitric oxide helps blood vessels relax and supports healthy blood flow and circulation throughout the body.

Healthy blood flow matters for heart health, exercise performance, brain health, and sexual health.

No added sugar. Not from concentrate. Organic. Convenient. Uses lemon juice as preservative.

Sometimes healthy eating isn’t about perfection. It’s about making the best choice you can with the time you have.

Food is information. Your body is the feedback.

As a Functional Medicine Practitioner, this is why I chose this milk over dozens of other options in the dairy fridge.

🥛 Organic
🥛 One ingredient only
🥛 Minimally processed
🥛 Glass bottled

I personally enjoy dairy and chose this brand because it aligns with my preferences and values.

That said, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition.

If you’re dealing with chronic inflammation, digestive issues, acne, PCOS, autoimmune concerns, or fertility challenges, dairy may be one of the foods worth evaluating with a qualified healthcare professional. Some people feel fine with dairy, while others notice improvement when they reduce or eliminate it.

The goal isn’t to fear food.
The goal is to make informed choices and learn what works best for your body.

Food is information. Your body is the feedback.

What factors do you consider when choosing milk?

This is the book I wish I had when I was struggling with PCOS and endometriosis during my college years. After healing myself naturally and pursuing further education and training in natural medicine, functional medicine, culinary medicine, and Chinese medicine, I wrote the guide I wish my four OB-GYNs, endocrinologist, and dermatologist had taught me from the very beginning.

Coming soon: The Joan Lu PMOS Reset™

A step-by-step guide to help women uncover the root causes of PMOS (formerly known as PCOS) and regain hormone balance, fertility, and natural healing.
