One of the easiest ways to increase core activation during an upper body workout is to work one arm at a time and use a staggered stance position.

Your core activates before you take a step or reach for anything. Once you get the hang of it, everything is a core exercise!

Learning how your body’s default pattern works is the key to optimizing every part of your day to support core recovery—whether you are postpartum, post-abdominal surgery, or just never had a core!

We’ve looked at the musculoskeletal system.
We’ve looked at the nervous system.
We’ve looked at the organ system.

Now, there’s a fourth layer: vascularity.

When I look at the body as a whole, I’m also thinking about how fluid moves through the system, how the body gets toxins out, and how nerves are able to glide, move, and transmit messages.

These pieces don’t operate independently.

They are all part of the larger system that makes you, you.

This is why I believe understanding the connections within the body matters when we’re trying to understand pain and dysfunction.

There’s more to your symptoms than the place where you feel them.

Big picture approach = moving beyond symptoms!

The US medical system makes more money treating you like a bag of parts instead of a whole human.

We deserve better!

If you’ve stretched and mobilized and still can’t loosen up your hips, it’s time to look somewhere else for solutions.

Instead of doing the same thing over and over again without results, maybe it’s time to look for new solutions!

Examples of how I have helped people regain hip motion this month:
Working to reduce a restriction in the trunk
Reducing tension in the pelvic floor with humming
Dynamic motion not stretching
Repatterning how movement occurs

What does your gut have to do with your pain?

Sometimes, the symptoms we experience can feel completely unrelated.

Pain.
Constipation.
Gut symptoms.
Migraines.
Musculoskeletal dysfunction.

But when we look at the body as a connected system, we can start asking different questions.
When we look deeper, the organ system becomes another important piece of the picture. Understanding what’s happening at the nervous system, organ, and musculoskeletal levels can help us better understand the connections between symptoms.

That doesn’t mean every symptom has one simple root cause.

It means we need to look at the bigger picture instead of treating every symptom as completely separate.

This is part of the 4D approach behind Aluna.

One body. Connected systems. An individualized approach.

If you have tried it all and still can’t figure out how to move on feeling like you have glute amnesia, let’s talk.

Women need muscle. Glutes are too big and too important to ignore when they aren’t showing up the way we need them to.

Let’s figure this out together! Book a session today.

For a lot of women, finding the right core exercise postpartum can feel a little like being Goldilocks… one exercise is too easy, another is too hard. It takes a little work to find the one that’s just right!

Instead, women often work too hard, lose their form, and potentially set themselves up for other injuries.

A quick screening or check-in can be the perfect way to make sure you’re on target with your exercise progression postpartum.

If you think a postpartum check-in screen would be good for you, let’s chat!

Aluna isn’t just a new name—it’s an evolution of how I approach women’s health.

Newburyport Wellness began with a more traditional, movement-based approach to physical therapy.
But over the years, my clinical perspective has continued to expand as I’ve worked to understand how the different systems of the body are connected.

That’s where Aluna comes in.

I like to think about the body in 4D—looking beyond muscles and joints to also consider the nervous system, organs, vascular system, and how all of these pieces work together.

Because your symptoms don’t always exist in isolation.

This is the evolution of my work. This is Aluna.

And there’s more to the 4D approach than you might expect. More on that next.

I’ve been quiet for a while… as in, all summer.

And honestly? There’s been a lot happening behind the scenes.

I’ve been navigating the beast that is rebranding, spending a lot of time with clients, and doing my best to support my two daughters as they grow into their own lives.

But now I’m ready to share what I’ve been working on.

Aluna Restorative Wellness is the next evolution of my work—and it goes beyond traditional physical therapy.

Over the next few posts, I’ll be sharing more about what Aluna is, how it differs from Newport Wellness, and why I’ve shifted toward looking at women’s health through a much more connected, whole-human lens.

There’s a lot more to your symptoms than the place that hurts.
Stay tuned. We’re just getting started.

Your pelvic floor symptoms may not be coming from your pelvic floor.
Because this area is connected to everything.
• Your breath.
• Your posture.
• Your movement patterns.

So if those aren’t working well:
• Pressure isn’t managed properly
• Muscles don’t coordinate well
• The pelvic floor takes on more than it should

That’s when symptoms show up.
• Leaks.
• Pain.
• Heaviness.
Not as isolated problems. But as part of a bigger system.

That’s why focusing on one area often isn’t enough.
𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿.
That’s where real change happens.
