A few months ago I made a few simple comments that I plan to stick by.
1: Tattoos are a Luxury, but eating shouldn’t be.
2: You can be a part of the problem, or you can be apart of the solution.
The donation center, and better put, its location has been a recent topic of conversation for myself, parts of this community, and the City Council.
I could go into specifics of how this situation has been handled, instead I will encourage you to watch the previous city council meetings to see for yourself.
I am not proud of my initial reaction nor the fact that I allowed rudeness to anger me. I will however stand by my opinion that it was unnecessary for city employees to present the issue as they did, and that members of the council misrepresented the conversations I had with them.
While the previous bench situation was unsightly, so is the state of poverty and need within this community. As I tried to express to the council, the center was never intended to be a cause for issues, inconvenience, or a breach of an ordinance I was not aware of.
The donation center has, and will continue to be a place community members can find food, personal hygiene and care items at any time, shine or snow, without question.
It is a place community members who feel inclined to help can bring those items as well.
Again, the donation center has a new look, maybe not a forever one, but for now one that hopefully will show the city I have been willing to cooperate since the beginning.
I will continue to seek clarification from the city council as to what the ordinance specifically means, meet the required need to utilize the sidewalk per their permit, but hopefully get to a point with the city works department for a more appropriate solution to allow for donations on the sidewalk as they were as to avoid entrance way obstruction.
Let this be an invitation to council members and city employees who are also interested in working together to find an appropriate solution, give me a call, come by the studio, heck I’ll even try to be more attentive to my email if that’s your preferred method of communication.
I’m not trying to be your enemy, I’m trying to be a good neighbor. Meet me with a little more kindness and a little less judgement to be better lights in the community and show everyone there’s an ability to be a benefit to all.
To the individuals and businesses that have offered to help, thank you. Without the words if encouragement and help I would be in a much more dim mindset to continuing this station.
