We're sorry to say that our boy Yang has passed. He fought hard for 3.5 days but his little body just couldn't kick into recovery after surgery.
Yang was just 5 years old, we celebrate Cinco De Meowo for all three of our cats.
Truly a unique blend of personality. He was smarter than the average cat, he enjoyed hikes, he enjoyed getting to know every person and animal in the room. He knew no stranger.
His attacker was a familiar dog, a dog he was friendly with, and has been around on many occasions. Unfortunately due to his nature, his defenses were down, and his senses were signaling friendly dog! Unfortunately the breed of dog and the history of the dogs behavior around cats when humans are not present, led to Yang being the victim of a dog breed that was specifically bread to hunt and kill, even friendly and familiar "friends".
While we hold no ill feelings to the dog, or the dog owner even, we hope that this incident helps further the need for a form of leash law or containment law for dogs in Avery County. We will be strongly advocating for some sort of protection and punishment for these kinds of cases.
