Inclusion is more than being invited.

It means having a real place in the life of a community. At Avery Association for Exceptional Citizens, and through Yellow Mountain Enterprises, we support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Avery County with opportunities to learn, work, live, and connect.

Not the sidelines. Real work, real choices, real participation. That’s the point.

"I made this" means something.

At Yellow Mountain Enterprises, that pride shows up in real work, new skills, and everyday accomplishments. Through our day program, vocational training, job coaching, and structured day programming, adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Avery County are building confidence and contributing in meaningful ways.

Not just an activity. Work, learning, and something you can point to with pride. What is something you have made that you are proud of?

At Yellow Mountain’s Avery County Group Home, everyone has a part to play.

Meals, shared spaces, daily routines. Not just tasks. Chances to build skills, make choices, and contribute to a home that feels welcoming and respectful.

For Avery Association for Exceptional Citizens, this work is part of a larger commitment that has served adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Avery County since 1976. Six residents, 24/7 support, and a community built year after year, one everyday contribution at a time.

How often do you use math without even thinking about it?

Counting change, comparing prices, measuring ingredients, keeping a budget. These are everyday tasks, and they matter. At Yellow Mountain Enterprises, educational and life-skills activities connect math to real-life routines so participants can practice skills that support confidence and greater independence at home, at work, and in the community.

What everyday task do you use math for most often?

Not a small gesture. A practical way to sustain employment, education, and daily living skills. If you’d like to help create more opportunities, you can donate today.

Fall is when the Treasure Box starts filling up with the good stuff. Coats, boots, and a few things you didn't know you needed until you saw them on the rack.

Every dollar spent here supports a client paycheck. Every hour worked here is a client doing a real job.

Stop by this weekend. We're at 442 West Mitchell Street, across from Avery Animal Hospital. Donating instead? Drop off at the back of the building, or call 828-733-0149 to schedule a pickup.

World Cerebral Palsy Day is a reminder that inclusion needs to show up in everyday life.

Today, we’re recognizing the lives and achievements of people with cerebral palsy and affirming the importance of rights, well-being, and full participation in our communities. It’s also a moment to highlight the vocational, educational, and residential supports that help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities build independence and connection.

Not every client's job is on-site.

Several of our clients work in the community entirely, with the help of job coaching and supported employment. Same goal as everything else we do: real work, real wages, real independence.

It looks different for every client. That's exactly how it should work.
