🎀 EARLY DETECTION MATTERS — BUT ACCESS MATTERS, TOO! 🎀

We talk a lot about how early detection can lead to better outcomes when it comes to cancer. But what happens when the cost of screening feels like a barrier?

There are resources available, and we want you to know about them! 💗

🩷 Uninsured and need a screening?

The Avery County Health Department offers the Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCP, pronounced “bee-sap”) for eligible, low-income, uninsured patients.

This program can help with:
✨ Breast and cervical cancer screenings
✨ Additional diagnostic testing when needed
✨ Resources for treatment if cancer is diagnosed

Many other county health departments in North Carolina may offer similar resources, too!

These programs are funded based on community needs, so the more people that access this program the more funds get allocated to them, which means even more people get access to care next year! That’s a nice little opportunity for everyone to pay it forward just by using the program !

💗 What if you don’t qualify for BCCCP?

For patients who are uninsured or underinsured and don’t qualify for the BCCP program, Medical Care in Elizabethton, TN, offers compassionate care with reasonable out-of-pocket imaging costs posted on its website.

Our internet is down, we’ve been told a cable was cut on 105. Our phones are down and our charts are down. For urgent or emergent needs please go to urgent care or the ER. If you need a medication refill please contact your pharmacy to send a refill request electronically and we will respond as soon as possible.

💗 WHY WE WEAR PINK 💗

Behind the scenes, one of the hardest parts of what we do is watching our patients face serious illness. And cancer holds a special place in our hearts.

Cancer has touched nearly every life in some way. It affects not only those who receive the diagnosis, but also the families, friends, and loved ones who walk beside them. And for those we’ve lost, its impact never truly fades.

So this October, we wear pink. 🎀

For our patients who are fighting cancer.
For our patients who are loving and caring for someone with cancer.
For our patients whose lives have been forever changed by a cancer diagnosis.
And for those we have lost far too soon.

*please note, for those that are concerned. We carry Fluzone manufactured by Sanofi. This is a traditional flu vaccine that includes inactive virus. It is *NOT mRNA*. *

If you would like an mRNA flu vaccine, called mFLUSIVA by Moderna, it has limited availability and you can maybe find a dose at major pharmacies. If you need help finding let me know, I’ll help you look.

We are so blessed to have the support of our community and our patients, and we never take that support for granted. 💚

Because of that overwhelming support, Jennie’s schedule is getting pretty full! Thankfully, we have Emily Benfield, FNP-BC, who came to Avery Wellness ready to jump right in.

Emily is an Avery County native with 10 years of experience in primary care. Our decision to welcome her to Avery Wellness was quickly confirmed as we began meeting patients who are following her to our practice so they can continue receiving excellent care from her.

As we continue to build Emily’s caseload, she still has some appointment availability for acute needs. We know how loyal Jennie’s patients are, and we completely understand wanting to see your usual provider. However, when you need to be seen for an acute illness or other immediate concern, Jennie’s schedule doesn’t always allow us to work you in.

That’s where Emily can help! For some acute visits, we may offer you an appointment with Emily. Rest assured, Jennie will continue to be your provider for your chronic care follow-ups and wellness appointments.

Our goal is always to make sure you receive the high-quality, personalized care you’ve come to expect from Avery Wellness. We are so thankful to have Emily as part of our team, and we are confident you will love her as much as we do!

We’ve been working hard this week to get patient statements out the door! Thank you for your patience as we work through them. If you have any questions please contact the office before making your payment.

For your convenience, initial statements are sent by text, followed by a paper statement in the mail.

We offer several easy ways to make your payment:

💳 Payment Link: We can send a secure payment link by request. Just give our office a call and we’ll be happy to send one.

📞 By Phone: Pay over the phone using a credit or debit card.

📬 By Mail: Send a check to our office.

🏥 In Office: Payments can be made by check, credit/debit card, or cash.
