Choking during intimacy is now reported by seventy seven percent of college age students, but here's what concerns me as a urologist and pelvic health expert.

Two thirds of women have been choked during intimate encounters compared to only a third of men. When researchers looked closer, they found that many college age women don't feel strongly about it but participate anyway. Those who've been choked more than five times were twice as likely to report depression, anxiety, and loneliness.

This isn't just about consent in relationships. Choking is actually strangulation and carries real neurologic risks when done unsafely, especially if you're not genuinely interested.

Send this to someone who needs to see it.
