Are you paying extra for SPF 100 thinking it gives you double the protection of SPF 50? Let’s talk about the big marketing numbers game! 🛑👇
If you walk into any CVS or Target right now, you’ll see bottles blasting SPF 70, 85, or 100. It sounds amazing, right? But the actual math might surprise you.
Here is how much protection your skin actually gets from the sun’s burning rays:
SPF 30 blocks 97% of UV rays
SPF 50 blocks 98% of UV rays
Yes, you read that right. The jump from 30 to 50 is literally just a 1% difference! There is no such thing as a 100% total shield, and a higher number doesn't mean double the strength.
So why do I still recommend SPF 50 to my clients? 🤔
Because honestly, nobody applies enough sunscreen! If you under-apply SPF 50, your skin is at least getting a decent shield of around SPF 25. But if you apply too little of an SPF 30? You’re leaving your skin basically unprotected under this summer sun.
Stop falling for the marketing traps and focus on applying enough of your sunscreen every single day!
