“Oh my God, this is terrible!” ... but is it really?

That negative event you’re facing right now might be the most cleverly disguised blessing. Let me share a wise old Jewish folktale that changed my perspective forever...

A farmer gets a free horse - lucky, right? His son breaks his leg riding it - terrible, right? That broken leg keeps his son from being drafted to war - lucky again? The farmer’s response to all of this was...

“We’ll see.”

This illustrates that we really don’t know ultimately what the meaning of events will be.

In Sacred Psychiatry, I explore how embracing ancient wisdom can transform our modern struggles into opportunities for profound growth.

Next time you’re ready to label something as “terrible,” pause and whisper these magic words: “We’ll see...”

Full Moon in Capricorn: Transcending Duality and Collective Responsibility

The full moon on June 29th shines at eight degrees Capricorn, bringing with it a powerful energy that transcends the typical associations of relentless ambition and striving. The ancient symbol of Capricorn encompasses not only the mountain goat but also the sea goat—a creature that navigates both the material world and the depths of the ocean.

As Neptune in Aries squares both the sun and the moon, we experience a flood of dissolving, mystical energy. In addition, a rare basket pattern forms with Neptune, Pluto in Aquarius, and Uranus in Gemini, creating an extraordinary harmonic alignment among these three outer planets. This configuration evokes a profound resonance between the forces of transformation, revolution, and awakening.

With Jupiter at twenty-nine degrees Cancer—the anaretic degree—on the cusp of its shift into Leo, it adds complexity to the emotional landscape, further enhanced by Mercury in Cancer. The Capricorn-Cancer axis fundamentally represents our needs for security and safety: Cancer seeks this through belonging, attunement, and nurturing loved ones, while Capricorn pursues it through structure, responsibility, and stewardship over the long term.

As this full moon illuminates our path, it invites us to ask ourselves: What do we most deeply need, physically and spiritually, in order to feel truly safe? How can we cultivate that sense of safety for ourselves, for one another, and for the world we aspire to create?

I would love to hear your thoughts and insights in the comments below.

Chiron in Ta**us: Embracing Enoughness and Connection to the Body

On June 19th, Chiron entered Ta**us, and if you’ve been feeling a shift around your sense of value, your body, or your relationship to enoughness, this is likely why. While Chiron was in Aries since 2018, the focus was on identity and agency - questions of whether we have the right to exist and take up space. Now, with Ta**us, the focus shifts to a deeper inquiry: Do I have value simply by being, rather than by doing?

Chiron in Ta**us illuminates the places where feelings of scarcity run deep. It prompts us to ask ourselves: Where do we resist receiving? Where does pleasure feel undeserved? Where have we become estranged from our own bodies?

In this phase, we also consider that Ta**us is an earth sign, while currently, most planets are in fire or air signs, creating a landscape of speed and abstraction. This contrast makes Chiron in Ta**us a vital counterbalance—a reminder to return to our bodies, to what is slow, solid, and truly present.

The healing we seek may not come from relentless effort but rather from stopping, tending, and being present to our senses. This initial phase will last until September 18th before Chiron retrogrades back into Aries until April 2027, and then remains in Ta**us until May 2034. There is time to explore these questions.

For now, reflect on this: What would it mean to believe that you are enough, not when you have earned it, but simply as a given?

I invite you to share what this stirs within you in the comments below. I would love to hear from you.

A Weekend of Writing and Reflection: Your Invitation

This September, I’m opening my home in Newton, Massachusetts, for a small, intimate writing retreat. Join eight women for a transformative weekend from September 11th to the 13th—Friday evening through Sunday lunch—using a method that may surprise you.

The method is called AWA (Amherst Writers and Artists), based on the founding principle that everyone is a writer. No prior experience or writing background is necessary—just a willingness to pick up a pen and see what unfolds. As we write in response to prompts, you may find that what emerges is often a delightful surprise.

These groups are designed to be non-hierarchical; I will write alongside you. Sharing is always optional. The only feedback offered is positive.

I will provide lunch and dinner throughout the weekend, and we will close the retreat after lunch on Sunday, the 13th. My home is about twenty minutes from Logan Airport, and please note that I have two cats—do consider this if you have allergies. Participants will be responsible for their own accommodations, but I will help connect those who want to share lodging.

Breakfast will be your own responsibility. The cost for this immersive weekend is one thousand dollars, and space is limited to just eight participants. If this retreat speaks to you, please email me and share what draws you to this experience and your relationship with writing. We will arrange a brief Zoom call before you commit, and payment will secure your spot.

Does this retreat call to you? If so, write to me.

Small Intestine 19: Your body’s “Listening Palace” for deeper discernment

In our information-saturated world, how do we know what’s true? How do we listen deeply without becoming confused or absorbing what might be healthier to ignore? This is especially relevant during Virgo season, when discernment becomes essential.

There’s an acupressure point called Small Intestine 19 - the final point on the small intestine meridian. Just as the small intestine governs decisions about what should be absorbed versus eliminated, this point symbolizes that same process on an energetic level.

You can find it in the small hollow just in front of your ear, most noticeable when you open your jaw slightly. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this point has a poetic name: “Listening Palace.”

Activating this point is said to purify and cleanse the heart, allowing the ear to become more receptive to truth - another quintessential Virgo theme of purification and refinement.

These ancient practices can support modern challenges. I love combining this with Yarrow flower essence (a few drops on your fingers) - Yarrow enhances energetic boundaries, allowing you to listen deeply while staying protected.

One beautiful resource for exploring these points’ spiritual functions is Lorie Eve Dechar’s “Five Spirits: Alchemical Acupuncture for Psychological and Spiritual Healing,” which describes each point’s purpose with poetry and depth.

While Small Intestine 19 also helps with physical issues like tinnitus, dizziness, and hearing loss, what a loss it would be to only use these points for physical functions when their spiritual gifts are so profound.

Try this practice as a way to refine your discernment. What do you discover?

🗡️ The Seven of Swords: What if this “deceptive” card is actually about strategic wisdom?

Some of the most feared cards in Tarot actually hold the most empowering wisdom - like the Seven of Swords. Traditionally linked to deception, evasion, and sneakiness, it understandably provokes fear when it appears. “Who’s trying to pull the wool over my eyes? How might I be fooling myself?”

In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, we see a trickster-like figure in red boots and a fur hat reminiscent of a shaman, arms full of five swords while two remain standing. Unlike the cool blues and grays that dominate the suit of swords, this card glows with bright yellow.

I want to offer a more empowering perspective: The Seven of Swords can remind us of the power of strategy and discernment - choosing your battles wisely, protecting your energy, and quietly walking away from what no longer serves.

Sometimes direct confrontation isn’t the best path, and clever, resourceful approaches may be far more effective. Rather than a warning of betrayal, this card can be an invitation to:

Trust your unconventional path
Honor your independence
Think outside the box
Guard your truth until the time is right

Not every battle needs to be fought head-on. Sometimes the wisest move is the one others don’t see coming.

How do you approach challenging cards? What reframes have shifted your relationship with Tarot’s “difficult” messages?

Nature’s Wisdom: Insights from the Python

Did you know that a python can consume prey as large as itself and then not eat again for months?

The organization Bioneers emphasizes a core insight: nature has already addressed many of the challenges we are still grappling with. Our task is to pay close attention and learn from these solutions. This is the essence of biomimicry—learning from the intelligence embedded in living systems.

Research teams from the University of Colorado Boulder, Stanford, and Baylor recently uncovered fascinating insights about pythons. After swallowing prey whole, a python's metabolism can accelerate an astonishing four thousandfold. Its heart expands by twenty-five percent, and its organs can double in size. And remarkably, after this intense digestive process, the snake may not eat for months.

What makes this extraordinary adaptability possible? It all comes down to a molecule called PTOS. When researchers administered PTOS to obese mice, they observed an impressive nine percent weight loss over twenty-eight days, without muscle loss or the nausea and gastrointestinal distress that often accompany treatments like GLP-1 drugs such as Ozempic.

PTOS already exists in human blood, though we do not produce it in the quantities pythons do. This isn't the first time we've looked to reptiles for inspiration; GLP-1 drugs themselves were developed based on compounds found in Gila monster venom.

Nature continually offers us guidance; we just need to be receptive to its lessons. Are there other examples of biomimicry that resonate with you? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Summer Solstice and Father’s Day: Honoring the Masculine Within

This year, June 21st marks both the summer solstice and Father’s Day — a synchronicity that invites deeper reflection. The solstice, as the longest day of the year and the moment when the sun reaches its peak power, serves as a symbol of illumination. In astrology, the sun embodies the archetype of the Father, representing the masculine principle that shapes how we know ourselves in the world.

On this significant day, when we honor our fathers, we are given a unique opportunity to explore the essence of masculinity — not just the commercialized version, but the genuine legacy of the fathers who impacted our lives. This includes the personal father who raised you, the ancestral line that flows through you, and the overarching structures of the patriarchy that have influenced each of us, often invisibly.

What have you inherited from this lineage? What was freely given, and what was withheld? Where did you feel seen, and where did you experience diminishment? Consider how the voice of the Father resides within you, offering support or, at times, representing limitation.

In the days leading up to June 21st, take some time to sit with these questions. Allow them to resonate within you. Then, on the solstice, create a personal ritual that reflects what you wish to acknowledge, honor, or release.

What are you ready to let go of? Please share your thoughts in the comments below. I would love to hear from you.

Navigating the Shadow of Our Technological Age: The Power of Sulforaphane

Pluto's recent entry into Aquarius calls us to confront the shadow side of our technological age. For the first time in human history, we have plastic circulating in our blood, lungs, hearts, and brains. This reality is alarming, as we bear a toxic burden that previous generations never faced.

Constant exposure to EMFs, chemical residues in our food and water, and endocrine-disrupting chemicals carried by microplastics are all realities of modern life. While our bodies possess natural detoxification systems, they require support to function optimally in today’s environment. One of the most powerful plant compounds available for this purpose is sulforaphane.

Sulforaphane activates the NRF2 pathway, a master switch that triggers our detox and antioxidant enzymes. Research indicates that it can enhance the excretion of environmental pollutants by up to sixty percent. This remarkable compound is particularly concentrated in broccoli sprouts, which are far more potent than mature broccoli. They contain both sulforaphane and the activating enzyme myrosinase, and you can easily grow them at home in just five days.

Pluto in Aquarius challenges us to acknowledge the costs of technological progress while guiding us toward a path of healing and resilience.

How aware are you of the toxic burden we all live with today, and how are you approaching detoxification in your own life? Please share your thoughts in the comments below. I would love to hear from you.
