peace.love.food Nutrition Counseling is excited to announce its first book club - the Intuitive Eating Book Club!

The Intuitive Eating Book Club is an interactive and discussion based book club where two peace.love.food registered dietitians will facilitate group discussions about Intuitive Eating and the real life barriers to establishing food freedom. 

The Intuitive Eating Book Club will start on January 31st, 2023 and will run virtually for 6 consecutive weeks from 12:00 - 1:00 PM EST valuing at $150. 

Because our book club will be held virtually, members are not restricted to residing in the Massachusetts area. We encourage you to join, no matter where you live, and spread the word to friends and family near and far.

Our very own Denise Samaroo is hosting a Diversify Dietetics meet up next Sunday 5/19 at 1pm at The Rose Kennedy Rose Garden! Free to attend and accessible by most MBTA lines!

This meet up is for professionals, educators, retirees, students, dietetic interns, basically everyone!

How do you take care of the body that you have RIGHT NOW?
Yes - today. The body you have right in this moment. It is very common for us to find ourselves attempting to care for the body that we had in the past or the body we wish we could have. This may include fear in purchasing new clothes that fit your body (undergarments included!) Do the ones you have right now fit your body comfortably?
If you are not comfortable in the underwear you have or the clothes you wear, this can slow down the progress of body acceptance. It can be a persistent reminder of body discomfort and feeling like a failure for not fitting into certain sizes.
There are 5 typical sizes to fit over 320 MILLION body sizes in this country. A reminder that the human body is not a "failure" for not complying with clothing sizes, but instead that clothing sizes are completely arbitrary! Not to mention that most standard clothing sizes don't meet the needs of our bodies.
Since our bodies are constantly changing we have found using companies as to help get rid of our old clothes (in exchange for money or new clothes that fit) to be so helpful. We understand that is process can be uncomfortable. However, finding support through friends or family or even your dietitian or therapist can help you move forward in your body, yes the one you have right now.

When we're trying to squeeze behind someone's chair in a resturant or trying to get by in a cowded area - we typically say, "I'm sorry."
This naive situation is only one of the ways we apologize for taking up too much space.
Diet culture thrives on this. Diet culture shames us for taking too much space. This fearmongering culture deems us as a complete failure if we do not succeed in shrinking our bodies.
Apologizing for your body size insinutates that there is something wrong with it. There is nothing wrong with the size of your body, ever. They are meant to be different sizes, shapes and to TAKE UP SPACE.
If people feel uncomfortable about your body, that's on them. They are not up for discussion and they are not meant to stay the same. And they require respect, not shame.

Believing in yourself might not come as easy as you want it to.
Hi everyone, it's Emma! One of the dietitians here at .love.food.nutrition. I wanted to stop in and say that I too have trouble in believing in myself sometimes. It might come in waves of an hour or days or even weeks.
I find that with change (and especially uncomfortable change) it can be hard to pause and whisper to yourself, "You can do this." You might witness this during the pandemic (that is still happening), a new job, recovery, or even randomly.
When these days get hard, I try to stay curious with myself instead of using judgement. This might look like, "Hey - what's going on?" Versus, "Get your s**t together, Emma you should be able to handle this." See the difference?
And when I realize what might be impacting these emotions, I give myself permission to do what I am able to do today - even if that means not crossing every item off my list, even if it means going to bed early or asking for help. Let what you do today be enough. Invite the emotions your feeling to come in a take a seat but not take over too much power.
We are not perfect, nor will we ever be - we are human and we are resilient.

When we are hard on ourselves, especially when it comes to our appearance and our bodies, it's very difficult to cultivate self compassion.
Self compassion is rooted in how we treat ourselves - which includes how we nourish our bodies, how we move them, how we rest, and how we ultimately enjoy the life we live. Rejecting the diet mentality includes letting go of the expectations that are not only unrealistic but harmful. Listening to diet culture even in the smallest ways will prevent us from setting ourselves free. We use so much energy criticizing ourselves instead of focusing on how we feel, who we feel supported by, and ultimately what we need.
