This morning, we loaded up 3,000 Muscle Up Bars and headed to the post office to fulfill the first wave of orders from our new 50,000-bar production run. 💪

🎬 Episode 5: We Found the Right Protein…Now What?

After months of testing, tasting, and refining recipes, we finally found a whey protein that met our standards.

We thought we were ready to start making bars.

Not quite.

In the food industry, changing one ingredient doesn’t just change the recipe—it affects almost everything.

What seems like a simple ingredient change can trigger months of additional work behind the scenes.

Would it have been easier to use a different protein and move on? Probably.

But that’s not why we started Muscle Up Bars.

It’s disappointing.

When our whey protein supplier unexpectedly left the business, we knew we had a choice to make:

➡️ Create a different Muscle Up Bar…
or…
➡️ Recreate the one our customers already know and love.

We chose the harder path.

Over the course of several months, we evaluated different whey proteins, created test batches, adjusted recipes, and learned firsthand how one ingredient can affect everything—from nutrition and texture to taste and manufacturing.

Some proteins looked great on paper but changed the texture. Others tasted good but didn’t perform well during production.

Our goal was never to make a new Muscle Up Bar.

Our goal was to bring back your Muscle Up Bar.

We believe quality is earned through countless decisions that consumers never see. That’s why we refused to rush the process or compromise on the standards that built our company.

We thought it might be that simple, too.

But we quickly learned that protein isn’t just protein.

Different whey proteins have different nutritional profiles, flavors, textures, and even behave differently during manufacturing. Changing one ingredient can change the entire protein bar.

So we had a decision to make:

From the incredible rock formations of Joshua Tree to the breathtaking views atop the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, we were reminded that strength isn’t just built through workouts. It’s also found in taking time to appreciate the beauty around us, spend time together, and gain a fresh perspective.

Travel, adventure, movement, and healthy living all go hand in hand.

We’re grateful for moments like these and even more grateful for this amazing community that’s been supporting us along the way.
