If you’re a woman over 40 who is still trying to change your body by obsessing over calories, I want you to understand blood sugar.
Because food is doing a whole lot more inside your body than adding up to a calorie total.
How you build your meals can influence your blood sugar and insulin response, your energy, hunger and cravings—and over time, metabolic health. And as our bodies change through midlife, understanding those signals becomes a hell of a lot more useful than spending another decade trying to eat less and burn more.
This doesn’t mean calories suddenly don’t matter. It means they are not the only information that matters.
I want women to understand why a meal can technically “fit” into a calorie goal and still leave them hungry two hours later. Why pairing and timing foods differently can change how they feel afterward. Why muscle and movement belong in a blood-sugar conversation. And why supporting metabolic health is about so much more than weight.
That’s one reason I’m really excited about Blood Sugar Balance with the team at At the Root Functional Medicine on September 17.
I’ll be joining a physician, nurse practitioner and nutrition coach to talk about blood sugar from several different perspectives—and, most importantly, what this actually looks like in real life.
